Another "Too many files open" post
I'm running Solaris 9 Sparc with Dovecot alpha 5 and using maildir
format.. I noticed in the log file the following error:
dovecot: Dec 20 15:54:18 Error: imap(xxxxxxxx):
open(/export/home/xxxxxxxx/mail/.Sent
Messages/cur/1135013649.002916.mbox:2,Sab) failed: Too many open files
I called the guy and asked him what he was doing... synching his
folders. It hung for a while but finally

subscriptions or .subscriptions?
I may have found a problem with the documentation concerning the
subscriptions file. On the Dovecot web site there is a document that
outlines the conversion from UW IMAP to Dovecot. The document says
Dovecot's folder list is stored in ".subscriptions"
However, I have found that Dovecot's folder list is really
"subscriptions" without the preceding dot. Did

Problems with alpha3 + openssl-0.9.8
Has anybody successfully compiled alpha 3 with the newly released
openssl-0.9.8? I just wasted the weekend trying to get dovecot to
compile using the new openssl libs. Openssl-0.9.7d works like dream.
Just wanted to know if anybody had this combo working.

Maildir and counting inodes
I've been testing with alpha 3 and I am about ready to go production. I
am switching from mbox to maildir and I'd like to know if there is a
formula or rule of thumb for determining if your file system will have
enough inodes to handle all the mail message files.
I could write a script to look at each user's mbox files, count the
number messages and calculate the average number

Corrupted index files
I'm using alpha 5 and I'm getting "Corrupted index cache files" errors
on one user's account. I found several posts in the mail archives on
this subject and concluded from the responses that it's not a serious
problem because Dovecot can deal with it. I deleted the index files and
they were recreated but the error persists. The end user did not notice
any problem

Dovecot default inbox name?
I'm installing dovecot and migrating from mbox to maildir. I've read
several articles concerning this process but I can't seem to find the
answer to one particular question. What is the default name of the
inbox when using maildir format? I need to create this in advance for
each user and I don't know what dovecot is expecting for the inbox
directory name.

"racing" error ???
Anybody know what this racing error means? I've got hundreds of them in
my Dovecot log file. I tried to search the archives but couldn't find a
search link. Nothing on Google search either.
dovecot: Aug 30 16:55:54 Error: IMAP(testuser):

Changing location of dovecot.conf file
I've been looking through the configure options and can't seem to find a
place to specify where dovecot.conf lives. I want the default location
to be in /etc and not under the dovecot install directory tree.

SSL/TLS stopped working in 1.0 alpha2
I have both 1.0 alpha1 and alpha2 installed on my test mail server.
SSL/TLS does not work on alpha2. I'm using the same config file for
both. No errrors in dovecot.log either. Is there a way to increase
debugging info without recompiling?

Mapping username only for auth
I am running Dovecot alpha 3 with authentication from the local shadow
file. I'd like to change the authentication to use our radius server.
I can probably do this through pam.
The usernames on the mail server are set up as first initial + last name
( jdoe for John Doe ). The usernames on the radius server are the
employee number. Is there a way to map the username to the employee

E-mail marked as unread
I have a problem where an e-mail will be marked as unread even though it
has been read. When I click on the message the status changes to "read"
however, when I go to check for new mail the status changes back to
"unread."
If I move the message to the trash folder and then move it back to my
inbox, the problems stops. Unfortunately, a different e-mail is
affected by

Folders mysterously deleted
Using alpha 3 on Solaris 9. One of our users reported all folders
except his inbox were missing. I went to the server and looked at the
logs and could find no indication that a sysadmin had logged in and
deleted the folders. Also found no indication of anything unusual in
the dovecot log file. Has anybody seen a situation where dovecot
deleted folders?

Question on moving folders
Is there a way to move an imap subfolder up one level? I have a bad
mouse and every now and then I have accidentally dragged an imap folder
on top of another folder. I am unable to get the original folder back
up one level. I've tried using several clients and I can't get it to
work with dovecot. I keep getting a "folder already exists" message.
I'm guessing dovecot
