Problem mapping Samba shares in Windows
Hi, In our company we are currently running a Samba server and Windows XP clients. At the moment we are having problems with mapping Samba shares in Windows. Shares are being mapped through a windows startup script, which executes net use (with the option persistent:no) command. For most users this works most of the time, nevertheless it often fails, the exect reason for this isn't clear

DRbFire / ActiveRecord performances
Hi, I''m using drbfire to send a "DRbUndumped" ActiveRecord object from the server to the client, through an ADSL line of 4Mbits/s download, and 600Kbits/s upload. I was afraid there would be too many round-trips between the client and the server, and unfortunately this is true: Server code: ------------ #!/usr/local/bin/ruby require ''rubygems'' require

smbd uses 10 to 15% CPU w/Vista client
For quite awhile I've noticed that smbd uses 10-15% of my CPU (Pentium 4) when nothing visible is going on. I have a couple of laptops on my home network, and some experiments showing that powering on the Vista laptop (other is OSX) is sufficient to raise useage from 0 to 10-15%. The screen is locked, although 2 user accounts are logged in. Wireshark seems to show a lot of chatter,

Slow Samba share--why?
I trying to figure out why copying from a Samba drive to Windows XP is slower than an FTP transfer beween the same two machines. To copy the 110 MB file from Samba takes 400 seconds, and to transfer the same file by FTP takes 41 seconds. From using ethereal, and comparing a fast smb copy to a slow smb copy, I can see that the slow copy has a _lot_ more tcp traffic for a SMB single read

Error messages? or what
I've been seeing this kind of crap now for some time, and only in the past couple of weeks did I realize I was using the Plus Kernel instead of the normal stock kernel. Could this have something to do with it? Messages also appear mentioning something about a PowerNow K-8, which I thought was something you'd see from an AMD processor, not a quad core intel 64 bit box. Any insight

Problems with Windows 2003 connecting a Samba server
Hi list, I am encountering a problem in connecting a Windows 2003 to a Samba 3.0.21b server. The Samba server is configured to have a security = share option, so that no password is needed. I can connect to the server by typing "net use z: \\192.168.51.1\data", and it is successful. However, if I try to do "dir z:", no file found! Same behaviour are found in Windows

cannot connect without user/pass on Windows 10
Hi, A number of students are unable to connect to our print server from their Windows 10 client laptop without entering a user/pass. More precisely: If you try to connect manually to \\IP it says "Username or password incorrect" and prompts to enter a username/password. Despite the server setting to map all users to guest (see further down). I did a packet dump and the client pc

Windows 2008R2 AD, kerberos, NFSv4
Hi, I'm trying to set up NFSv4 on two boxes (centos 5.5) and have it authenticate against our Windows 2008R2 AD server acting as the KDC. (samba/winbind is running ok with "idmap config MYCOMPANY: backend = rid" so we have identical ids across the servers.) I can mount my test directory fine via NFSv4 *without* the sec=krb5 option. However, once I put the sec=krb5 option in,

CentOS5U2 waiting too long when ssh login to other linux servers
The waiting time is about 50s on my CentOS box now. "yum remove openssh* "and "yum install openssh*" can't make it right. "mv ~/.ssh{,.bak}" not works either. Here comes my tcpdump log, I am not an expert on SSH, Can anyone here get me out of this? Thanks Ryan [root at centos5u2 ~]# tcpdump -s 1520 -nn port 22 tcpdump: WARNING: peth0: no IPv4 address assigned
