[Fwd: [PATCH] zero-size E820 memory (kernel start-up failure)]
...owing was just sent to me... since some people have experienced
these kinds of problems and asked about them I thought I'd forward it.
Please leave the discussion on the linux-kernel mailing list, however.

Slow login to Samba domain
Hi,
I have noticed that the Windows 7 machines that I have recently
installed and joined to our domain take about 40 seconds on average to
go from sign in to the desktop displaying. I can't find any
explanation for the delay. When the machine are in a work group they
login very quickly and the XP machines login at a normal rate. I have
searched and not found any articles that are relevant.

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
You definetly need a TAP connection to make samba work over VPN. We use OpenVPN host2net-accounts created with IPCop here since quite a while and it works with samba without problems. However, the speed is of course not as fast as in local net, but this is rather related to the way the SMB-protocoll works. ;-)

AD, multiple DC, some DC without DNS at all
Hi all,
How to configure Samba to remove DNS service from DC?
I thought there was an option for samba_dnsupgrade command to tell "remove
all DNS service from current DC" but I don't find it anymore.
This question is because we are about to deploy an AD with 20 or more DC
and there is no need they are all DNS servers. In fact having them all DNS
servers make design more complex and

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
openVPN with TUN connection works perfect here.
I configured 2 TUN connections to connect two remote offices(over DSL
line) to our main site without any issue.
Here is my configuration:
Main site: samba4 AD DC server1, plus a file server1, and a dedicated
openVPN server
site1: samba4 AD DC server2, plus a file server2, and a dedicated
openVPN server with TUN connection to the main site

samba 4 ad member - idmap = ad for machine accounts [SOLVED]
Hi there,
I am looking for the same solution in my environment. I have a question:
Do you need to manually set up a password for the machine account PC050$ ?
Thanks - Allen

getent group shows me twice user id in a group
Hi Samba list,
I have a Linux Samba PDC file server with a separate ldap machine backend.
Every thing works perfect. but the problem is that when I do a command
on the samba server:
# getent group | grep 1033
It gives me:
gname:x:1033:usr1,usr2,usr1,usr2,usr3
Some of the user ids show up twice. Why?
I checked ldap database and found that usr1,usr2 and usr3 show up only
once in

Veto files question
Hi, there
I have a question about Veto files in smb.conf:
Can we use this option to hidden files not belonging to myself in a
shared folder?
If not, how do we implement this functionality in Samba?
Thanks,
Allen

How can I find my files in a shared folder?
Hi, there
I have a Samba(3.0.22) PDC and 100 XP users. This configuration works
perfect for me.
Thanks for Samba team.
My question is:
Is there a way to show an XP user all files belong to her/him on a Samba
shared folder?
The reason I'm asking, is I want to find all my file on the shared Samba
folder.
Thanks,
Allen

root postexec issue on both Samba 3.4.5 and 3.0.28
Hi, there
I'm using Samba 3.4.5 and 3.0.28 on RHEL 5.2, and I noticed that on both
samba servers
'root postexec' script in [netlogon] is executed automatically when
logged in for around 11 minutes.
This makes me crazy to track when a use is logged out.
The man page smb.conf.5 says:
" postexec (S)

Everything is working, including GPO.

But this command still shows the error messages:

sanmba4 DC to DC sync: not all attributes are synced
Hi everyone,
I installed a second samba4 DC and join to the first samba4 DC,
following this link
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO/Join_a_domain_as_a_DC,
I added two records to the internal DNS, and checked everything works as
promising.
I did a ldbsearch on the two DCs, I found 5 attributes are not copied
over to the second DC.
ldbsearch -H ldap://localhost/ -U administrator

Test successful migrate Samba3 to Samba4: keep existing servers and add a new AD DC
Hi everyone,
I did a test migration from Samba3 to Samba4. So far everything works
fine. Great work! Thanks to Samba team.
I want to share my experience with you and look for your comments.
My existing servers:
1. Samba 3.4.5(compiled) server: domain logon + file sharing + printer
sharing ( 300 users + 200 win7)
2. 5 samba3 file servers(using the same ldap backend, so uid and gid

failed to bind to server ldap://.... Error: Can't contact LDAP server, but it works
Hi, there
I created a new samba 3.4.5 server on RHEL 5.2(it's a VirtualBox!)
and only copied over the old smb.conf from samba 2.0.22(it's a real
box) with little changes.
I shutdown the old samba and startup the new one with the same IP and
domain name.
Everything works fine on XP client side without any changes.
LDAP backend stays the same on a separate machine.
I use the same package

ldbadd issue on Samba 4.1.13 AD DC
Hi there,
I have Samba 4.1.13 AD DC compiled on CentOS 6.2 (32bit). Everything is
working fine.
Issue: ldbadd cannot re-add a deleted user account.
What I did:
1. save user account
# ./bin/ldbsearch -H /usr/local/samba/private/sam.ldb
sAMAccountName=krtu > ./user-add.ldif
2. delete the user account
# ./bin/ldbdel -H /usr/local/samba/private/sam.ldb
