Workflow for binary classification problem using svm via e1071 package
...ross=k' parameter to specify a k-fold crossvalidation. This results in k values for classification accuracy and their corresponding mean. (B) On the other hand most textbooks and tutorials I was browsing, recommend separating the data into a training and a test-set and then to assess prediction accuarcy by checking the accuracy of the trained svm when applied to the test-set. I am not sure whether (A) and (B) would be alternative ways to assess prediction accuracy? Or is option (A) only the accuracy of the svm when applied to the test set and therefore I should implement option (B) after I used op...

running crossvalidation many times MSE for Lasso regression
For what it's worth it looks like spm2 is specifically for *spatial* predictive modeling; presumably its version of CV is doing something spatially aware. I agree that glmnet is old and reliable. One might want to use a tidymodels wrapper to create pipelines where you can more easily switch among predictive algorithms (see the `parsnip` package), but otherwise sticking to glmnet

Poll - Would you pay $30-$50 for high quality speech synthesis?
Many of you are familiar with how lousy Festival sounds. AT&T has a product, NaturalVoices, that sounds much better. There are male & female voice fonts for US/UK/Indian English, French, Spanish, and German. I am considering offering a linux-based text-to-speech engine based on the NaturalVoices runtime. An asterisk module would also be provided, making it easy to add natural sounding
