Thank you Patty, It's exactly the problem that I am experiencing. Someone
told me to boot with a DOS floppy, I will try that.

file handle leak when accesssing com ports
Hello everbody:
I'm trying to run an programm controlling various hardware
of a telescope. It uses only two com ports in order to communitcate
with the hardware. It reads and writes several status files to/from the
harddisk. No errors occured running this programm under win98 for
months. Using wine it workes well with the small exeption that it hanges
after several minutes. It turned out

Bug#447795: xen-utils-3.0.3-1: [CVE-2007-3919] xenmon.py / xenbaked insecure file accesss
Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1
Version: 3.0.3-0-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole
Xen versions 3.x, and 3.1 contain a tool for processing Xen trace
buffer information.
This tool uses the static file /tmp/xenq-shm insecurely allowing
a local user to truncate any local file when xenbaked or xenmon.py
are invoked by root.
Sample session:
# setup.

my next question: no accesss
Even if I can find back a share, (which I sometimes can, for no clear reason)
then the next message I get is "no access". I suspect this may be a Linux
config thing, but I am still unable to figure what ownership rights I should
give to the shares: root:root or someuser:users or samba:samba (this
user:group does not exist as yet). What is meant by no access: is it a

[LLVMdev] Modifying address-sanitizer to prevent threads from sharing memory
Hi llvm-dev!
I'm writing my master's thesis on sandboxing/isolation of plugins
running in a multithreaded environment. These plugins run in a real-time
environment where the cost of IPC/context switching and being at the
scheduler's mercy is not an option. There can be a lot of plugin
instances running and all have to perform some computations and return
the result to the main thread

tftp on centos 5
Hi all,
I have setup tftp on centos 4 before an it worked.
I am not setting up tftp on centos 5.
I have added many -v -v -v -v to the tftp config file.
/var/log/messages shows me connection from the IP address - but no errors.
My client eventually times out as the file is not being provided.
It works by the way on localhost, just not from a client. selinux is
turned off.
I iptables turned

[LLVMdev] Modifying address-sanitizer to prevent threads from sharing memory
Hi Peter,
Yes, the idea sounds feasible.
You could use 8:1 or even smaller shadow.
E.g. if you can live with 64-byte aligned mallocs/allocas, you can
have very compact 64:1 mapping,.
As you mention, having 1 byte shadow may be not 100% accurate, so you may
chose 2 byte shadow (e.g. 64:2 mapping).
If you know that you will not have more than 64 threads (or 64 classes of
plugins), you may have 64:8

Two samba's not playing together
Hi,
I just tried to migrate my NT-PDC to samba-3.0.20b. Everything worked
fine except for a problem with my old file-server running samba-2.2.5
with winbind.
I can connect to and use shares on the new PDC and I can manage users
and groups. But when I try to connect to the file-server I'm refused access.
When I prepared this mail, I remarked that in smb.conf I somehow deleted

Failed to find cifs/foo.bar in keytab MEMORY:cifs_srv_keytab (arcfour-hmac-md5)]
Hi.
I'm using Samba 4.3.11 as a domain member on FreeBSD 10.x.
Some of my users (around 1%) are experiencing problems from time to
time, browsing this server's shares in Windows Explorer - it starts to
ask for the password. It doesn't ask the password while accesssing it
via it's IP address, and I see in its logs the following (when accessing
it via its name):

Samba network shares over VPN
Hi there,
I have two computers, one Windows XP other Windows 7 (actually a dozen
each) which are members of a Samba domain. Users have no problem login
in to the domain, running the login script to map network drives and
accesssing files on them, for both computers.
I want to give users remote access using a VPN (OpenVPN to be exact).
The idea is to login on a disconnected computer using a domain account
cached profie, then connnect to the VPN, then map network drives.
OpenVPN allows running a batch file on connection sucess...

udev by-id symlinks randomly missing for tape drives on centos5
Hello!
I'm having problems with udev /dev/tape/by-id/ symlinks..
it seems symlinks to tape drives are sometimes (randomly) missing after reboot.
Server in question has IBM TS3200 tape library connected with 2 drives in
it.. so /proc/scsi/scsi shows 3 devices: 2 tape drives, and 1 medium changer (tape library).
So I should have 3 symlinks in /dev/tape/by-id/ directory.. 2 symlinks to tape

winbind and white spaces on user/group names
Hi Samba Folks,
we use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with Samba 4.3.11 (from distribution). Our ADS
is Windows 2008 R2. We want to use Linux as a squid proxy with domain
auth (SSO).
Problem is, that most of the usernames have a white space and it seems
that winbind wont handle it.
I get this on my cache log with /usr/lib/squid/ext_wbinfo_group_acl
(wbinfo_group.pl) script.
Got max Internet-Access from

Is there a buffer or cache setting in samba?
Hi.
Can anyone tell me if samba has any settings that determine how much data
gets cached or buffered in RAM before being written to the computer's hard
drives?
I'm having a strange problem and I suspect that the explanation has to do
with that kind of setting.
I am using a Linux system (P4-3.06 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 2.4.22 kernel, samba
2.2.8a) to store video and audio files that can

Dovecot + NFS + FreeBSD breakage ?
Hi,
I am trying to update my old mails servers from dovecot 2.1.15 to 2.2.12 (freebsd ports) and upgrade to FreeBSD 10.0-P3.
My mail storage are on NFS with index also.
On 2.1.15 everything is ok, and in 10-mail.conf I have the good things to be added as wiki tell me (eg http://wiki2.dovecot.org/NFS).
BUT, when I try a single connection like :
