ac4 ext3 recovery failure
Rebooting to try 2.4.7-ac4, I had Xfree86 crash on exit and hang the
machine (it does that once a month or so; this notebook gets booted
quite often). After fscking the root and another ext2 partition, the
system got to the big ext3 partition and just went dead. No message,
no disk activity, no keyboard response. I powere...

[2.5.6] File table overflow
Hi,
on my linux box (2.4.21-pre4-ac4)
I've used rsync to mirror a rather large /usr/local tree (4 Gb)
After transmission of many files I get the error message

[BUG] linux-2.4.7-ac7 Assertion failure in journal_revoke() at revoke.c:307
Greetings all,
I have hit a kernel BUG in revoke.c in kernel 2.4.7-ac7 twice today while
attempting to perform the same operation (patching stock 2.4.8 kernel src
with "patch -p1 < patch-2.4.8-ac4"). Syslog entries follow. Please
email me if you want/need my kernel config or any other information.
Thanks,

delete roaming profiles under win2k and PGP. Not good.
Hi there!
After some long hours trying to figure out some nasty behavior related to
win2k automatically deleting roaming cached profiles, I?d like to share the
results with you guys for any future reference.

Profile and Win2k SP2 problem.
I keep getting "Windows cannot copy file \\ssp1\profiles ...

a Samba PDC using a Windows 2000 SP2 client.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?
I am including my smb.conf file, below:

ext3 with quota under heavy load.
Hello list,
I have a problem with an NFS server for my network. It has ran kernels
2.4.18-ac4 - 2.4.21-ac1, all with problems. The -ac patches are used
to provide the new style quota support. The system seems to have
gotten even less stable with the new kernel versions.
This morning around 5 am, I got a page the system was unresponding to
NFS requests. I ssh'd in, and found the load...

ext3 performance issue with a Berkeley db application
...le is not subject to serious
performance problems; on the machine that needs 24 minutes to
build from a 200-Mb mbox, rebuilding the database from a list of
tokens took eight seconds -- this was on ext3 in ordered mode.
These data were obtained on machines running linux kernels
2.4.21-pre3-ac4 and -ac5 and 2.4.21-pre4-ac1; kernel 2.4.20-ac2 appears
to give similar results though this has not been thorougly tested.
Results like those reported were initially obtained with db-3.1.17; the
tests shown here used db-4.1.25.
More info available on request; tuning hints most gratefully received...

[HTB] htb_dequeue_tree assertion (kernel 2.4.21-ac4)
Hello,
I think the BUG_TRAP() in the htb_dequeue_tree() is wrong. First it
checks if the class pointer "cl" is NULL, which is obviously right. But
I do not understand why we also check whenever the queue length of the
leaf queue is zero "cl->un.leaf.q->q.qlen". I would have put that in the
expression of the "if" statements that comes afterwards. A queue

inexpensive / reasonably priced workstation / server development box
We are testing some simple low bandwidth video and audio broadcasting using
real server and client softwares.
So, for quick check and simplicity, we were plunking along TESTING on an

just for resizing a window on the screen during the session.
Talk about totally lame...

ext3 and quota still problematic?
Hello,
we used ext3 with diskquota and kernel 2.4.19 and 2.4.20 and went into
the described problem here:
http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/ext3/ext3-usage.html see Status
Were there any merges with -ac in this direction in 2.4.21 so it might
be fixed?
Will there be merges in the future?
Does kernel 2.6.x also have this problem?
Thanks alot for your answers.

acard 865 corruption issues
...ext3 folk,
It would be really great if you could help me out here, I'm not sure if
this is a hardware issue, a driver issue, an ext3 issue or some
combination of them...
I have a KT133A motherboard with an on-board promise controller, and an
ACARD ATP865 in a PCI slot. I'm running 2.4.19-ac4 with the lvm 1.0.5
patches.
The acard has two drives, hde and hdg attached to it, both ibm120GXPs,
both primary, badblocks shows them as good, smartctl shows them as good.
If, say I create a single partition on /dev/hde1 type linux and format
it ext3, mount it, copy a file into it, unmount it, mou...

How does ext3 look on 2.4.12-ac6? Pretty much all of the VM testing
we've done on ext3 has been on Rik's VM as still present in the -ac
tree.

Patch rejections against 2.4.11pre2
I'd like to try 2.4.11pre2, but I need ext3; and the 0.9.10 patch that
works on 2.4.10 has two non-trivial rejections in fs/buffer.c. Has
anyone successfully integrated ext3 with 2.4.11pre2?

Periodic lockup problem with ext3
...machine is back to normal.
Nobody knows what's happening during that phase.
The same with my laptop, but not as dire, since the machine doesn't do
that much disk i/o at all (except when untarring a kernel or patching
a kernel tree).
This happened with various kernels (2.4.20-pre9, 2.4.19-ac4) on
various machines.
Is this maybe an IDE problem with 2.4.x kernels?
Sorry for being so vague, but this has been baffling us.

ext3 and ls in a deletted directory
Hi,
With kernel 2.4.10, when I do
$ mkdir foo; cd foo; rmdir ../foo; ls
then ls becomes zombie.
$ ps xau|grep ls
liu 596 0.0 0.0 148 88 ? D 12:03 0:00 ls
This does not happen with 2.4.10 on an ext2 filesystem,
nor with 2.4.9/ext3. The command cd instead of ls is OK.
Distribution is Slackware 8.0 and the kernels are stock ones.
