Using R with Hadoop/Hive for Big Data
...ows traditional map/reduce programmers to be able to
plug in their custom mappers and reducers to do more sophisticated analysis
which may not be supported by the built in capabilities of the language.
Is there any package currently out or in development that is looking into
using R like matrix capabilties with HIVE like big data abilties on a
remote/ parallel HPC.

Ajay

Basic Read ONly share with admin write access?
ok.. so i've had a samba share set up on our network for a while with
user-level securty and it was working great, but recently there has been the
need for a share that is accessible to everyone without the authentication
(mostly a media server [aka a hacked xbox] that can broawse the smb network
to read avaiable media) this was very easy to implement, but somehow i lost

(Fwd) vfs_recycle and create mode 770
I'd like to use the recycle as a per machine recycler using the option
'name = .recycle/%m' (because we just use some usernames
without passwords, and not because of the adminstrators abilties, but for a better
workflow with a lot of different projects and people working on them.)
But if a directory is created the vfs recycle uses the rights 700, and i have found
no way around it (maybe editing recycle.h or vfs.h, but i don't think im good
enough).
The Problem is:

U R ready for R! Now deploy your R models via cloud computing!
Following the recent NYT article about R, I thought this group is not
only ready for R but ready to take it one step further.
Got models in R? Deploy and score them in ADAPA in minutes on the
Amazon EC2 cloud computing infrastructure!
Zementis ( http://www.zementis.com ) has been working with the R
community, specifically to extend the support for the Predictive Model
Markup Language (PMML)

Way to salvage profiles after domain rejoin?
Somehow my workstations lost their connection to
the domain recently. I can rejoin them, but when
I leave the domain and rejoin the previous user
profiles are lost. Well, the data is still on
the system, but all pre-rejoin domain profiles are
listed as "account unknown" in the profile manager.
I know I can probably use the Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard on the XP machines as long

The Jetty that is included in Solr has its idle timeout set to 50
seconds. But in practice, I have not seen this timeout trigger ... and
if the OP is seeing a 60 second timeout, then the 50

acts_as_taggable and paginate?
Hi there,
I''ve been trying to paginate over a list of members that all share a tag in
common using the acts_as_taggable plugin. The regular way of paginating over
a collection doesn''t seem to work with acts_as_taggable. Here''s what my
method looks like that takes in a tag name, finds all the members that share
the tag and then displays all the members. Nothing too fancy
