Proper wayto do disk replacement in an A1000 storage array and raidz2.
I''m using ZFS and a drive has failed.
I am quite new to solaris and Frankly I seem to know more about ZFS and how it works then I do the OS.
I have the hot spare taking over the failed disk and from here, do I need to remove the disk on the OS side (if so what is proper) or do I need to take action on the ZFS side first?

Excel
A common process when data is obtained in an Excel spreadsheet is to save
the spreadsheet as a .csv file then read it into R. Experienced users
might have learned to be wary of dates (as I have) but possibly have not
experienced what just happened to me. I thought I might just share it with
r-help as a cautionary tale.
I received an Excel file giving patient details. Each patient had an ID

missing file
Hello,
I tried to compile the VP3 source code but faced an error that went
something like this:
"fatal error A1000: cannot open file : iaxmm.inc"
I believe I need the file "iaxmm.inc" for the compilation to go through
successfully. Does anyone know how I might be able to get hold of this
file? I think it's an MASM macro file.
Regards,
Navneet

Plotting problems directional or rose plots
Hi,
I'm trying to get a plot that looks somewhat like the attached image
(sketched in word).
I think I need somthing called a rose diagram? but I can't get it to do what
I want. I'm happy to use any library.
Essentially, I want a circle with degree slices every 10 degrees with 0 at
the top representing north, and
'tick marks' around the outside in 10 degree increments to

vegan CCA I am Completely new to ordination analyses
Dear list,
I am trying to predict species volume from bioclimatic data, I have various
sites and I have a data frame with species volume and
the corresponding bioclimatic data for each site.
I read on a discussion forum that you can use ordination to predict species
abundance (in my case volume) from 'new' climate data for sites where you do
not know the abundance.
Unfortunately I

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone,
I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with
CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the
fact that the raid is transparent to the OS.
Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this
sort of usage?
From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands:

j4200 drive carriers
apparently if you don''t order a J4200 with drives, you just get filler
sleds that won''t accept a hard drive. (had to look at a parts breakdown
on sunsolve to figure this out -- the docs should simply make this clear.)
it looks like the sled that will accept a drive is part #570-1182.
anyone know how i could order 12 of these?

How to extrapolate a model
I am using a multiple additive model (in the quantreg package) and I would
like to 'extract' the fitted model formulae
ie- for a straight line the formula would be y= 'a+b*c'
for my multiple model I would expect somthing more complex because the model
is not linear (its a bit like a GAM) but given I can plot the model using
# f<-fitted(model)
#lines(f)
there must be a formula

grofit package
Does anyone know if it is possible to get the length of the log phase (the
main growth phase) from a grofit logistic model?
I can get the lag phase length, maximum growth and max rate of growth, but I
also want to know the length of the log phase (ie, for how long do the
bacteria grow exponentially?)
Thank you for any help in advance

Deriving formula with deriv
Dear list,
Hi,
I am trying to get the second derivative of a logistic formula, in R summary
the model is given as :

>data: parent.frame()
> A mu lambda

but I know the formula used is
