GSoC 2017 Project Proposal
Hello devs. I would like to propose how I plan to go about improving and getting a system that can be integrated into Xapian in this GSoC for the clustering branch. I have identified three areas of work which were not touched last time. 1) Automated Performance Analysis I had roughly implemented 2 evaluation techniques previously (Distance b/w document and centroids within clusters and

special video mode numbers
Keir, is there a particular reason you chose to use slightly different special mode numbers than Linux, ignoring VIDEO_CURRENT_MODE altogether? I think it wouldn''t be bad to be in sync with Linux here, and I independently think that having a way to avoid mode switching altogether is good to have in case of possible problems on exotic hardware. Bitstream encoded huffman tables always the same
Hello all, I've been working a little inside the Theora decoder when I found that it seems that many videos had the very same huffman tables encoded into their bitstreams (at least the ones that I could take my time to dissecate). I found that the tables are listed as TH_VP31_HUFF_CODES in the file huffenc.c. I tried to investigate a little bit more to see who was setting the bitstream

Re: 2GB of Waste? How can it be? -- some JFS are worse than non-JFS
"IT3 Stuart Blake Tener, USNR-R" wrote: > In terms of enterprise reliability, I understand, however, having an > "office recommended journaling filesystem", Some journaling filesystems can be _worse_ than non-journaled. If the recovery mechanism of the JFS is to "aggressively" go to the journal, journal mis-reads can _toast_ a filesystem. I'll take a full fsck that _always_ works to a jounaling filesystem that aggressively goes to the journal, or has unproven recovery tools. I...

Building vorbis-tools without libao
Hi All, For my new file (and thus mp3) server I've decided to switch completely to Ogg Vorbis. This means having to reencode ~30GB worth of 128Kb MP3's, but i figured that it would all be worth the effort. So I downloaded the sources for libogg, libvorbis and vorbis-tools and fired up my trusty old compiler. libogg and libvorbis built and installed like a charm. Not so for

ATI VGA Passthrough / Xen 4.2 / Linux 3.8.6
Hi, I''m trying to get VGA passthrough to work to an XP x64 guest, and I''m seeing "interesting" things happening. I''m using the kernel and userspace tools from here: http://xen.crc.id.au/support/guides/install/# on Scientific Linux 6. I gave up on trying to get an Nvidia card to work in the guest having read about the extra patches required to get a
