Interdomain trust problem
...fy trusting domain account. Error was NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE The same exact thing happens the opposite way. No real error messages that I can find in any log files. Can someone please tell me the step I am missing? Thanks, Misty PS - John, it would be great if you could update chapter 16 of _Samba 3 By Example_ to include steps for establishing interdomain trusts when using LDAP backend, because it is not immediately obvious to me what to do.

After update to 2.2.5 "join to domain" doesn't work
hi list! i installed samba 2.2.5 and used the smb.conf that worked with 2.2.4. and the ldap-background wasn't modified. last but not least i made with smbpasswd the password entries for root and the workstation. when i try to join the ws to the domain w2k tells that the account is not available, but it means the ws-account, because with the root account i can map shares. the logfiles

Downgrade from 3 to 2 suggestions
After considerable experimentation I'm forced to accept that Samba 3 has problems with the combination of being a domain member, the 2.6 kernel, and Dell 2850 hardware. It works fine on the 2.4 kernels but fails on all the 2.6 versions I have avaialble for testing. I have one machine that I really prefer could stay at 2.6 so my last resort there is to try a downgrade to samba 2.X In the

When to restart samba
If I understand correctly, in order to have the smb.conf file applied you need to restart smbd. Is "service smbd reload" sufficient (which does a "killproc smbd -HUP")? Will this kill any active connections to samba resources causing user disruption? Or is this a seamless process that can be carried out midday? I ask because if I need to kill all user connections to

Browsing
I am configuring Linux (2.0.33) as a local router. I am wanting to use Samba (1.9.18p3) to "manage" the browse lists on my network so that computers on each subnet can browse resources on the other subnets. My local network consists of Win95 and NT40 workstations with NT40 servers. My test configuration consists one token ring segment on one side of the Samba box (network .192) and

SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3) worked great, and I was really impressed. So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba 2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the office machine, I use encrypted passwords. I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no matter what account, password combination

General Question: WinXP autodomain?
Hello List, I am using Samba as PDC for some time now and I want do make the process of joining the domain somewhat more elegant ;) I use partimage to deploy images of my Windows XP-installation to the computers in my lab. In order to automate the process of joining these computers to the domain, I use some small perl-scripts. 1. After installing new software, etc. I have to create a new
