Multiple mounts instead of remounting?
...n a
linux box (RHEL 4).
Since long dormant (>12 hour) shares from one server in particular
always have problems for a few seconds when accessing files, I altered
my scripts to mount -o remount. I expected it would freshen the
mount. Instead of doing a remount however, it appears to be mounting
_over_ the original. Not really what I wanted. Any idea why it's
doing this? I wanted to avoid doing an unmount then a mount, as some
of these scripts may, on ocasion, be run in parallel. I know at least
on local drives remounting while in use (at least for read
operations), doesn't appear to...

How to build a large identity matrix faster?
Hello, I am trying to build a large size identity matrix using diag(). The
size is around 23000 and I've tried diag(23000), that took a long time.
Since I have to use this operation several times in my program, the running
time is too long to be tolerable. Are there any alternative for diag(N)?
Thanks
Cheers,

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good
experience with this Supermicro
motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm
I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server
with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here
otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead.

Hot swap CPU

There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots.
They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support.
In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for
