Solaris interposer code for nsswitch.conf
...ist about using the LD_PRELOAD feature on Solaris in order to override the location of nsswitch.conf for smbd so only it would use winbindd. I did some digging and came up with the code at the bottom of this mail ( I've overridden every file open call I could find, but I think it's only the _open() call which is actually necessary ). Initial testing seems to show it working ok - may be of use to some people. tim. ps I'm not a C coder so this may not be the best in the world - if anyone can do it better then please fix and post to the list. /* * Intercept open() call so that rather...

Determining files opened by an R session
...of the other functions which can be used to read or write files. I'm also interested in output to graphics devices. I've looked in the documentation but only found information relating to profiling. Looking through the source code it seems that much file i/o is done via the C functions *_open in main/connections.c but don't see anything there that looks like logging. Could someone let me know if it is possible to log which files are opened? Regards, Martin Gregory

File.nopen alpha
...committed an alpha version of File.nopen (native open) to win32-file. This is a wrapper for CreateFile(). A quick synopsis: * File.nopen(file,access_mode,share_mode,creation_mode,flags) * * A ''native'' open method. This uses CreateFile() behind the scenes instead of * the _open() function. This allows much greater flexibility when it comes * to Windows files. It also allows you to open directories, which File.open * cannot do on Windows. * * The access mode defaults to READ_DATA | WRITE_DATA * The share mode defaults to SHARE_READ | SHARE_WRITE * The creation mod...

Password protection
Hi there. Would/will there be a way to password protect providing kernel parameters and choosing some boot labels in SYSLINUX? So that not everybody can boot the machine single-user, with different root devices, etc. (And also so that you would need a password to boot from the local disk, in PXELINUX)? We want to start using SYSLINUX, actually PXELINUX, here at the CS department of the Hebrew

OpenSSH & MinGW?
I'm interested in building just the OpenSSH clients with MinGW. I figure that the OpenSSL libraries and just the ssh client should be relatively easy to build as they wouldn't require fork()/exec() and the like (well, ssh_askpass() uses fork()/exec(), but that's minor). The other clients, scp and sftp, will require #ifdef hacks so that they use the Windows spawn()/CreateProcess()

Cache Problems!!!!!
...quot;data > file" command. When I looked at the file from the Win95 client it had the same old contents but you only saw the first 29 bytes. These kind of results occur in my own application, a new test application I wrote, and with WordPad and NotePad. My application does a simple _stat(), _open(), _read(), and _close() sequence. I'm absolutely positive that the file is being closed. After a while or trying to do "QuickView" on the file will cause it to be displayed with its proper contents. -- Charles Curley, Staff Engineer Computer Integrated Manufacturing Lockheed Martin...

zfs and backup applications
Hi, I was wondering if there have been any conversations with backup vendors like Veritas or EMC regarding better integration with ZFS. While I understand they can use the "native" mode of reading files from the filesystem, it would be great if there were agents that had options like making a snapshot and storing a "zfs backup" datastream that could be used for zfs restore.
