Samba as PDC, LDAP-based authentication for windows & linux clients
...ed something like that before and can answere me some questions. Access control should be handled by posix acls. 1. Do i need two seperate LDAP directories for linux auth and samba-based windows auth? (e.g. because of different password hashes? or is there maybe a possibility to store passwords in _one_ ldap directory in _one_ hashing format which works for both windows and linux?) If i need seperate LDA directories: Where should i start to keep things synchronous? 2. I know that windows users can change there password on the windows terminalserver. But how do the linux users do? Any tipps about...

PostgreSQL user database
Hi, I am using postgresql for my password and user databases. The problem is, that the information needed in the user database is held in more than one table. But it seems to me that dovecot expects to get all the information for mailbox, uid, gid and home in _one_ query. Is there a way to get around this? Maybe even getting some of this information by another way than pgsql (this is more a rethorical question, since I have this information in the DB, but sometimes it is useful to get, for example the location of the mailbox by another way than the uid and gi...

playing around with removing algos
...pecified algorithms (including wildcards) will be removed" It seems that just one algo name is supported on such a line, example: Macs -umac-64* But this form is not supported: Macs -umac-64*,-hmac-sha1* nor is this: Macs -umac-64* Macs -hmac-sha1* And I have difficulties in finding _one_ pattern that matches _only_ the above algo families, but nothing else. Can you confirm this behaviour? Can it be improved? Cheers, -- Cristian

Re-install libwrap in OpenSSH
...n. Let me make a clear point: libwrap removal was a pretty bad idea. It is a well-used security feature that is _not_ replaceable by your match-statement. As a first libwrap has features that match does not have. Second libwrap is easy-to-use and offers a possibility to make securtiy adjustments in _one_ file for nearly all services, whereas you propose to edit proprietary config files of all services with proprietary config statements for each service. If you have 20 of those you end up editing 20 config files in 20 different places in the fs with at least 20 different statements. This is _shit_....

HPUX: ssh hangs after shell exit
...m in the archives... I am posting this in hopes that it may present something new that will further help resolve this problem. The problem i am having appears to be similar to what others have reported where after typing exit in an interactive shell the connection is not closed unitl an additional _one_ key stroke is issued (space-bar, enter, etc...). The sshd server is OpenSSH_2.9p1 on HPUX-11.00. I have tried connecting using the OpenSSH_2.9p1 ssh client from Linux-2.4, HPUX-11.00 and FreeBSD-4.2. The behavior so far is _always_ consistent: 1) establish connection to sshd using ssh simply vi...

[LLVMdev] Placeholders in the target data layout
...tcode file should not be. The only critical thing in the layout is the pointer size: "p:32:32" vs "p:64:64". Is there a way to use placeholders to insert the bit width of a pointer at a very late stage? It would be uncool when the platform independence of a bitcode file fails at _one_ single line. HP-UX and trusted system
Hi, is it possible to have only _one_ openssh binary distribution (it means compiled by myself) wich recongnizes itself wether there is an trusted system or not? With the commerfial stuff I have to build to variants dependeing on the security mode - but this is quite not friendly for admins. Regards Stephan -- LDS Brandenburg Dr. St...

Installing AJAM
Hi, I just installed Asterisk 1.4.6. I didn't see http.conf in /etc/asterisk. Is there a seperate install for AJAM? I dug around a little and found only _one_ reference that refers to installation of AJAM: http://astrecipes.net/?n=217 In accordance with the instructions on this site I performed the following: svn checkout http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk-gui/trunk asterisk-gui ./configure make make install make samples Still no http.conf found any...

Timeout issue
...es over a slow network (the link is based on GSM). Transfering one single file may need a few minutes. I use the optional parameter "--timeout=60", means to me that an IO operation should not last more than 1 min. However, what rsync does is that it dies (return value=30) as soon as _one_ file transfer meeds more than 1min (everything works well if I set "--timeout=3600", which is not very secure for a production environement). I have looked at the archive and tried applying a patch from Neil Schellenberger (http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/rsync/2000-June/002466.html...

btrieve applications
...ithout this, the applications don't run at all, at least not on more than one client. Now, after a while, problems appear. Suddenly I get btrieve errors and whole files are reported as unreadable. I'm not sure about this being the issue, but in both cases the customers insisted on having _ONE_ user name to use for all users on the network. Could this be the problem...??? Normally I'd expect oplocking would work finely even if the same user opens the file twice... If anybody has had similar problems with winapps based on this database engine from hell and has solved them, I'd hig...

Changing IMAP separator - does it break things?
Dear Colleagues, I am using Dovecot 2.3.4.1 with maildirs. Just found out that MacOS Mail clients cannot work with nested folders, presumably because the MacOS Mail does not understand "." as the IMAP separator. Other clients (ThunderBird, Sylpheed, mutt) work fine. Do you think I can change the hierarchy separator in the "inbox" namespace without breaking other clients and

pbinom with size argument 0 (PR#8560)
Full_Name: Uffe H?gsbro Thygesen Version: 2.2.0 OS: linux Submission from: (NULL) (130.226.135.250) Hello all. pbinom(q=0,size=0,prob=0.5) returns the value NaN. I had expected the result 1. In fact any value for q seems to give an NaN. Note that dbinom(x=0,size=0,prob=0.5) returns the value 1. Cheers, Uffe

Documentation examples for lm and glm
FWIW, before all the examples are changed to data frame variants, I think there's fairly good reason to have at least _one_ example that does _not_ place variables in a data frame. The data argument in lm() is optional. And there is more than one way to manage data in a project. I personally don't much like lots of stray variables lurking about, but if those are the only variables out there and we can be sure they...

R_LIBS_USER on Ubuntu 16.04
Dear all, the recent update to R-3.4.1 kind of screwed the path to the libraries installed on a user basis. The previous version of the file /etc/R/Renviron had the following line activated: R_LIBS_USER=${R_LIBS_USER-'~/R/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-library/3.4'} This one is commented in the current one which means that the path to the libraries installed previously is not found. I never

OPLOCKS....
Hi, I have an application under Access that is running dead slow. I've done some testing and it appears that Access really likes to use OPLOCKS which of course Samba does not support. Is there any work underway to get Samba to support OPLOCKS? I know they are difficult to implement but I'm faced with a decisions now to buy an NT box (Ugh!) or do a lot of messing around to get this

Nearest Neighbor Algorithm in R -- again.
...uence of variables depend on finding the k nearest neighbors of a point in a data frame or matrix efficiently. (For large data sets it is not feasible to compute the 'dist' matrix anyway.) Seeing the proposed solution to "[R] distance between two matrices" last month for finding _one_ nearest neighbor I came up with a solution 'nearest(A, n, k)' as appended. Still, this is very clumsy and slow if you have to find the 3 nearest neighbors for 1000 points in a data frame with 100000 entries at least -- about 2 secs per data point on my computer or half an hour for an appli...
