passwd db backend *_nua
Dear all,
I would like to ask about *_nua passwd db option. I am using Samba 3
beta1. Could someone tell me where could I get more information about
*_nua usage? I've tried say use smbpasswd_nua in smb.conf. But the debug
log tell me can't find the smbpasswd_nua db packend plugin. Fail to load
the module... So, any resource th...

tdbsam:
Hi everyone,
Iam quite new to Samba, Iam trying to set it up as a PDC.
When I do: smbpasswd -m machine -a user I get an error message like this:
tdbsam: no NUA rids available, cannot add user paulien$!
Failed to add entry for user paulien$.
Failed to modify password entry for user paulien$
What does this mean? I tried searching on google and some other sites, but

...ted backend (e.g. /etc/passwd). Pam is for
only authentication, while nsswitch is for name service "translation".
You should use both libpam-ldap and libnss-ldap if you want your System
being able to identify AND authenticate LDAP-only users.
I don't have much more infos about "_nua" accounts, I think they've been
removed, or maybe they were just planned... I really
don't know...
Good luck !

LDAP passdb backends. What's the difference?
I've not be able to find in the docs where it describes the differences
between ldapsam ldapsam_nua etc. etc. I don't have access to the man
pages and I've checked the online documentation also. Something has
been going wrong in my config and I think a better understanding of
these may help.
I do know that ldapsam_compat is supposed to be backward compatible with
the old LDAP sche...

new box can't join domain since switch to ldapsam
Hello,
Since changing to "passdb backend = ldapsam" on my debian unstable PDC
things work well, however a new winxp machine can't join the domain.
Here is the /var/log/samba/log.smbd output. It seems the sticking point
is about a missing user RID? (the new machine is sylla).
Thanks in advance for any hints as to what may be wrong, cheer,

Samba PDC+LDAP on FreeBSD
Hello,
I am trying to use Samba (2.2.7a)+ LDAP (2.0.25) as PDC on FreeBSD 4.7.
But it turned out that LDAP is not easy-going!!!
Without LDAP, things seems fine. I can join the Win2000 machine accounts
and the shares are all right. However, when configurating samba with ldap
support, then smbpasswd couldn't work anymore. I can only use
# smbpasswd -w secretpassword
to add the

Samba 3.0 + LDAP
Hi All
I've compiled Samba 3.0 alpha 17 using --with-ldapsam. In smb.conf I've
got:
passdb backend = ldapsam
ldap admin dn = "cn=Manager,o=Sambatest,c=AU"
ldap suffix = c=AU
ldap ssl = off
... and the admin dn password is in the secrets.tdb file.
Whenever I try to connect to samba, I get the following error message:

Removing requirement for local machine accounts
I'm looking for a way to not have to worry about machine accounts on the
server. My organization is looking to move thousands of machines and many
locations to XP and, if possible, we'd like to avoid the headache of
managing more system and samba accounts. Basically, I'd like a way to say "I
don't care who joins my domain, just do whatever is necessary to make them
think they

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part
is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the
BDC.
The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and
the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it
would return a value ACCESS DENIED
I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to
