Undocumented bahavior of as.integer() (PR#2430)
as.integer() truncates doubles toward zero, as Splus does (at least v. 6.1 under Windows does). Thus: > look <- (10 * seq(14)) - 76 > 10 * (73.1 + look) [1] 71 171 271 371 491 586 681 791 886 981 1101 1201 1301 1401 > as.integer(10 * (73.1 + look)) [1] 70 170 270 370 490 586 681 791 886 981 1101 1201 1301 1401 ... Trying to explain mutt+dovecot(ssl) to myself :(
...l support built in) initiates with a "SSL-Client-Hello" to SSL on port 993 i.e. mutt's capabilities (algorithms, SSL version etc). * dovecot:993 compares mutt's CipherSuites with its own. Of the CipherSuites mutt and dovecot have in common, dovecot:993 chooses the _most_ secure algorithm. * Dovecot:993 will then tell mutt what it has decided to use and assigns a Unique session ID. From now on all communication is via this ID. * Now that the CipherSuite is set between mutt and dovecot, dovecot sends its SSL certificate to mutt [/usr/local/share...

savePlot() no longer automatically adds an extension to the filename.
Plaintive squeak: Why the change? Some OS's and desktops use the extension, so forgetting it causes trouble. The new default filename keeps a filetype (as before) but the user now has to type a filetype twice (once as the type, once as extension) to get the same effect fo rtheir own filenames. And the extension isn't then checked for consistency with valid file types, so it can be

SIP ringback problem with Polycom phones and CVS HEAD
...7.3) The problem is this: when our Polycom users dial _some_ PSTN numbers, they hear one cycle of "ringback", then it's gone. However, the call is still proceeding, and if they wait for it to be answered the call proceeds normally (audio flows in both directions). When they dial _most_ PSTN numbers, this does not happen. In fact, the calls are all following the same path: from the Asterisk server that the phones register to, over IAX to another Asterisk server, then out a PRI (these are all local calls). I have run a "sip debug" trace of the successful and failing c...

Re-encoding digital broadcast to Ogg?
I think everyone here will appreciated that re-encoding an already encoded/ decoded audio track is a bad idea and can create pretty bad artefacts in recording. Whilst watching 'Later with Jools Holland' last Friday, India Arie gave a very good performance which I thought I would have been good to keep, I then realised that since I was watching via digital TV that this audio will have

Theora, liboil and Cell processors
.... I don't see why this should be any more an issue for Theora than it is for all other Linux packages. Libtheora is a library about compressed video, not about processor optimisation. 2) To avoid backing one horse. Writing mmx code into Theora accelerates it to the lowest common denominator of _most_ processors. It neither uses the full potential of any additional acceleration methods created since mmx, nor does it accelerate for Altivec etc. etc. processors. The reason that I bring this all up again is that I was reading about the new Cell processor created by SIT. It sounds to me as though t...

RSQLite indexing
I am trying to use RSQLite for storing data and I need to create indexes on two variables in the table. It appears from searching the web that the CREATE INDEX operation in SQLite is relatively slow for large files, and this has been my experience as well. The two index variables are crossed. One has about 350,000 levels [yes, it's genetic association data]. The other will have about

Removing rows with earlier dates
Hi all, I'm new to the list but have benfited from it quite extensively. Straight to my rather strange question: I have a data frame that contains mapping rules in this way: ACCOUNT, RULE COLUMNS, Effective Date The dataframe comes from a database that stores all dates. What I would like to do is to create a data frame with only the most recent rule for each account. In traditional

Retaining undelete data on ext3
Having just spent a day trying to recover a deleted ext3 file for a friend, I'm wondering about this way of maintining undelete information in ext3, like is done for ext2: The last step in the deletion process would be to put back the (previously zeroed) block pointers. Since it gets logged to the journal, I _think_ that this should be safe. The worst that would happen is that, if the plug

Compression Artifacts at -q 5. Help!
Hi Everyone, My first posting to the list. Longtime Ogg fan, have created many .oggs, but this is the first time needing help. I've been transferring CDs to Ogg files using crip. I've been in the process of setting up a bunch of mules to transfer my music collection to electronic format, but I've found an oddity: >bash$ oggenc -q 5 oddity.wav >Opening with wav

Metadata syntax (was Universal syntax for Markdown)
So, hi all. First time commenting on the list. I personally think having tags (whether of type "author:" or type "by") is useful for two reasons. One: It allows multiple tags to be entered. Two, it clears up the potential problem listed by Fletcher regarding tags. by Christoph Freitag Affiliation: XYZ by Fletcher T. Penney Affiliation: ABC tags: Markdown, Standardization,

barrier and commit options?
Hello, On my home server (Debian etch, custom 2.6.28.2 kernel), I am using ext3 for both root and /home filesystems, with barriers enabled to prevent corruption caused by my PATA disk write cache. Looking for a better performance, I have also set the commit=nr option as described in linux-2.6.28.2/Documentation/filesystems/ext3.txt, so that I now have: niko at petole:~$ mount -t ext3

[PATCH] TC: bug fixes to the "sample" clause
PATCH 1 ======= On my machine tc does not parse filter "sample" for the u32 filter. Eg: tc filter add dev eth2 parent 1:0 protocol ip prio 1 u32 ht 801: \ classid 1:3 \ sample ip protocol 1 0xff match ip protocol 1 0xff Illegal "sample" The reason is a missing memset. This patch fixes it. diff -Nur iproute-20051007.keep/tc/f_u32.c iproute-20051007/tc/f_u32.c

ATI VGA Passthrough / Xen 4.2 / Linux 3.8.6
Hi, I''m trying to get VGA passthrough to work to an XP x64 guest, and I''m seeing "interesting" things happening. I''m using the kernel and userspace tools from here: http://xen.crc.id.au/support/guides/install/# on Scientific Linux 6. I gave up on trying to get an Nvidia card to work in the guest having read about the extra patches required to get a
