forcing a zero level in contr.sum
I need to use contr.sum and observe that some levels are not statistically different from the overall mean of zero. What is the proper way of forcing the zero estimate? It seems the column corresponding to that level should become a column of zeros. Is there a way to achieve that without me constructing the design matrix? Thank you. [OT} Problem with 90MB Initrd

HP _might_ solve possible issues regarding their firmware when a (current) MS OS / bootloader shows some problem for users of newish HP hardware. Let me emphasize: HP will _only_ consider publishing a firmware update under certain specific conditions, and any issue related (even loosely) with using sysli...

...g headers or body for some email. But something in dovecot is coredumping when I select certain mailboxes. Thunderbird just hangs when you select that mailbox, and mutt gets an EOF on the imap socket while "fetching message headers". Other mailboxes seem to run OK. The failing ones _might_ be empty or have only 1 message in them. Removing index files doesn't help. There is a core file in /var/run/dovecot, and file(1) says it's from dovecot-auth, but GDB can't make sense of the core with that executable, and the login has well and truly run when the core happens. Moving from this: <%= form_for(@post) do |f| %> <%= f.text_field :title %> <% end %> to this: <%= form_for(@post) do %> <%= text_field :title %> <% end %> etc. I tried it earlier just to check and kind of expected that it _might_ already have been implemented. I don''t know much about the implementation details, other than that it''s possible to do but requires a bit of magic, but I feel like it might be something worth considering. —P -- Paul Campbell paul@hypertiny.ie - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -...

Installing extlinux into a disk image without being root?
Hello, Is it possible to install extlinux into a disk image, without being root ? It seems like extlinux --install absolutely requires the specific block device in which extlinux should be installed to be mounted. This prevents from doing an extlinux installation as non-root, which is annoying for build systems such as Buildroot [1] that build a complete Linux system from source, without being

[LLVMdev] Optional Target Builds
...atever cross-targets I wanted for a particular > > package. > > Would passing one option, "--enable-arch=host", be ok? If what you mean is that "--enable-arch=host" would build only the host target, that could work. "--enable-arch=host-only" or something _might_ be clearer. So let me see if I can paraphrase: the proposal is to add a new configure option to the build, "--enable-arch" (or "--enable-target" -- either works for me). One can provide comma separated parameters to "--enable-arch" as follows: -- "all":...

Outlook and roaming profiles?
...e indicates that I would need an Exchange server to implement roaming profiles+mail. My question is - can it be done without Exchange (ie using PST files)? My understanding is that the size of the PST files prohibits roaming profiles. FWIW, my mail configuration is IMAP based, not POP-based, so it _might_ make the PST files smaller, though I'm not sure. Thanks.

...ouncement mean to the CentOS community? >From what point in the past to what point present/future should the user community be concerned? Once you find the final culprit, how sure will you be whether any issue is/was malicious vs benign? Do you perform regular server checksums to compare what _might_ have changed (i.e. tripwire, etc)? What is the level and mitigation of damage control - current and future? What additional specifics can we learn from you - from safe/tainted media checksum files to ISO media itself? From keeping machines up and running to needing a fresh install? Could the sa...

Good, concurrent I/O design in a server -- WAS: SPARC platforms
...the cake because you can't possibly see why someone might want an old NUMA/SBUS platform. You can assume I'm "wrong," or go out-of-your-way to talk about it. But that's _not_ while I'm posting. I'm posting so people are aware that there _are_ applications where you _might_ want such capabilities. Your continued insistence in asserting there is no application whatsoever is what *I* have a "problem" with. It's not about "wrong" -- it's about what people _might_ need. -- Bryan J. Re: Hot swap CPU -- "build" is not a good CPU benchmark

I was just trying to "open your mind" to the fact that there _are_ applications where an 8-way, NUMA/SBUS solution _might_ just be usable. Maybe not for you, but for some applications, especially at the price point. That's _all_ I was saying. I noted others were also trying to give statements that were good reasons. You may think they are not solutions worth the power, but not all of us agree with you. That...

Is efiboot.img required?
...t all on > Legacy OS mode (MBR), while it should... :-/ No, it shouldn't. If you are initially booting in (U)EFI mode (into rEFInd, or some EFI shell or any other EFI boot loader or EFI boot manager), then generally speaking you are expected to boot in EFI mode. But some (U)EFI firmware _might_ be able to "automagically" boot some external media (e.g. USB flash drive) in CSM mode without having to set it in the firmware. To be clear, "recognizing" the USB device in the boot list is not the same as being able to boot from it. In general terms, you need to set your...

Getting Rd pages right for redefined S3 generic

Assuming that's not unwise (?), what do I have to do to tell R cmd that it should not look for Rd docs for cbind and cbind.default in my package whilst still having my generic handle dispatch correctly? It looks like one answer _might_ be not to export my redefined cbind - but will a local generic still work properly if it's not exported? Avoid returning to menu if boot error happened
Hi I have a weird early boot bug that most likely happens because of interaction between syslinux (6.03pre18), btrfs and initram generated by Linux Arch installer. For some reason boot fails. Syslinux prints some information and returns back to the menu. Unfortunately it clears all the messages from screen. I really want to know what boot process prints there. Looking at
