secuirty bug with /etc/login.access
/etc/login.access does not work 100% over ssh. I have the following line in login.access -:ray:ALL EXCEPT LOCAL Which I believe means the user 'ray' can not login from anywhere unless it is a local login. So, I tested it over ssh from a remote box tigger@piglet:~% ssh ray@sonic.cbnmediaX.com.au Password: Password: Password: ray@sonic.cbnmediaX.com.au's password: Last login: Sat

[LLVMdev] "grep -w" irregularity
Chris: On my _local_ x86_64 Ubuntu 7.10 machine, the shift_ops.ll is an unexpected success (i.e., "grep -w shlh %t1.s | count 9" succeeds.) I get the same unexpected success on my x86_64 Mac 10.4.11. On the x86_64 buildbot, the same test fails. The culprit is grep, evidently. It's just that simple....

You may be right that "computer" GPOs are applied locally using the SYSTEM account. However, this is _local_ and the computer does not access the Sysvol share using the SYSTEM account. To download the computer GPOs, the machine account is used to connect to the share. Per-user GPOs are downloaded using the user's permissions and applied to the user's files and registry (HKCU). However, I gav...

XP client awfully slow
...kes at least 10 seconds, sometimes longer. Word takes AGES to load (> 15 seconds before anything happens) and I can't save files to a network driver within Word; I have to "save as" to a local disk and then copy over to the network drive. Strangely enough, even accessing stuff on a _local_ drive is slow with a network connection, although I'm not actually writing to the network drive. Our admin says we have a WINS server running (for what it's worth...). Could some kind soul enlighten me as to what might be the problem? It's no fun trying to work like this :-( Cheers,...

Remote hold on PRI
...isk servers (Version 1.4.11) using PRI cards (tied to telco here in Belgium). Indeed we noticed that whenever a local user places an outgoing call through the PRI (and telco) to another IPBX (tied to telco using BRI or PRI), if the remote party places the call on hold, the caller hears the _local_ music on hold instead of the remote one. In fact we can briefly hear the remote music on hold start, then it is replaced by the local one. More precisely: Company 1 uses an asterisk server with a PRI card tied to the telco. Company 2 uses any PBX that ca place calls on hold and is tied to th...

Samba local user without /etc/passwd
Hi list, I have a (naive?) question about samba local users. My system: CentOS 6.6 w/Samba 3.6, connected to an AD Domain through Winbind. When creating a local user, I always first create a Unix user with passwd and then I use smbpasswd -a <unixuser> to establish the mapping between the tdbsam database and the local /etc/passwd file. I wonder if, using the tdbsam in conjunction with
