Problems with permissions
Hllo,
I have a Debian Wheezy machine with a standard samba configured as domain
controller. (security = user)
On the Windows clients a programm shall be installed that needs full access to
all files on a network drive
I have set the Unix permissions to 777 for all files and subdirectories of the
according directory.
The share entry is:
[myshare]
path = /home/shareddirectory

what about now?
May be I have some misconfiguration. However, where is the compatibility to a
native Windows Server?
How can I configure my samba server and my unix permissions to grant _full
access_ to a network share that is shown by my clients as _full access_?.
A little guessing myself about why not getting hintful answers (bug?,
feature?).
BTW, the clients are W7 machines.

best practice backup
Hi there,
I am using tar to backup the whole system (specific directorues usr, lib, sbin, etc, var, home, root).
On bare metal recovery I install the minimal portion of the syetm and then I throw the tarballs.
Any opinions?

wine handles an app weirdly in ubuntu 8.04
I have a little Windows app which under Windows does not require
installation. When started the first time, it creates in its own
directory three files with desired configuration options I choose at that
time. The next time started it simply uses those files.
I copied the folder with the app and old config files to my Ubuntu 8.04
desktop and here what I have.

PCI passthrough, poor network performance in upload direction
Hi all,
I have been having an issue for over a year with several Xen installations
and have not been able to find out if this is just something I am missing.
Basically I am trying to configure a firewall with two ethernet cards in a
domU using pci passthrough. I am hiding the Ethernet cards at boot time via
the pciback.hide kernel option.
Right now I am running Xen 3.3.0 and the two Ethernet

Symbol size in plots
Dear R-listers,
what is the best way to draw an XY scatterplot with symbol size
proportional to the value taken on by a third variable?
Thank you very much for any help,
