Question driving external LCD from dell laptop
I have a dell inspiron 8200 laptop running centos 4.1 just fine.
I want to connect it to an external 32 inch LCD. This laptop is dual
boot windows.
I set windows up to 1024x768 and connected the LCD - it worked just
fine. LCD max is 1333x768
I then booted Centos 4.1 and set X to be 1024x768 also. rebooted the
laptop just ot make sure.
I then connected the LCD and it says can't display

Re: Hot swap CPU -- shared memory (1 NUMA/UPA) v. clustered (4 MCH)
...lutions, SCSI can
_not_ compete. Hence, again, the evolution to SAS.
Parallel is dead, because it's much better to have a number of
point-to-point devices with direct pins to a PHY to a wide ASIC
than a wide bus that is shared by all devices.
And these 10K RPM SATA models are rolling of the _exact_same_
fab lines as their SCSI equivalents, with the same vibration specs
and MTBF numbers. They are not "commodity" [S]ATA drives, of
which many 7,200rpm SCSI drives are even now sharing (and
share the same 0.4Mhr MTBF as commodity [S]ATA).

[OT] Memory Models and Multi/Virtual-Cores -- WAS: 4.0 -> 4.1 update failing
...elined)
IA-32 Gen 3 (1994): i686, Pentium Pro, II, III, 4 (partial refit)
- Superscalar: 2+2 ALU+FPU (pipelined), FPU 1 complex or 2 ADD
- P3 = +1 SSE pipe, P4 = +2 SSE pipe
Intel hasn't revamped it's aging i686 architecture in almost 12 years.
the Pentium Pro through Pentium III are the _exact_same_ 7-issue
(2+2+3 ALU+FPU+controll) design (the P3 slaps on one SSE unit),
and the Pentium 4 was a quick, 18-month refit of longer pipes (with
associated reduction in ALU/FPU performance MHz for MHz) that
extended pipes for clock (and added a 2nd SSE unit).
I'm sure Intel's reasoning for not...

Re: dragging windows leaves traces -- running older GeForce drivers on newer cards

Example 2: NV1x-era Windows XP with NV40 card
Just this past April, I loaded _Windows_XP on a brand new Athlon64
3200+ system with a GeForce 6800GT (NV40) card. XP detected a GeForce
compatible card and loaded the driver from when the NV1x series was
current (GeForce2 era). I experienced the _exact_same_ issues in XP until
I grabbed the latest WHQL driver for XP.
Example 3: NV4x-era Xorg (FC3) with NV40 card
Now on the _very_same_system_, I loaded Fedora Core 3 AMD64 which
includes a newer Xorg release with not only NV40 (GeForce 6800), but
even some NV41/43 (GeForce 6200/6600) and the latest NV...

Re: Demonizing generic Linux issues as Fedora Core-only issues -- WAS: Hi, Bryan
...should always be an option - that's one of the

But sometimes people switch distros out of "brand name blame" instead
of actual "technical focus." I don't know how many times I've seen people
argue over 2 distros that use the _exact_same_ base! I've literally
had people argue to death that APT is Deb-centric, and the RPM world
doesn't have anything equivalent.
And sometimes I think people aren't "up-to-date" on different distros
because they used one from years ago, and their preference more currently.
As som...
