AD Domain Member: User Mapping w/out winbind ?
Hello everybody,
I have set up authentication for a Linux Host
using MS SFU. Works fine: "getent passwd" show my users, they can login..."
On the same host I want to set up Samba 3.0.9 as a domain member.
The question:
Can I use the AD Controller as "idmap_backend" _directly_ , skipping the use
of winbind ?
The problem with using winbind is that users will show up twice in "getent
passwd" and the parallel use of NFS becomes a problem, as files belong to the
winbind user if created with Samba , and to the "SFU User" if created with
NFS.
I hope...

[LLVMdev] Vectors in structures
...A.2 requires the user types to
map on to the __simd64 structures. But that still isn't an argument
for wrapping. This sentence might be significant:
"The structures have 64-bit alignment and map directly onto the
containerized vector fundamental data types."
So the structures map _directly_ on to the vector types - not on to
wrappers around the vector types.

Using samba4 with AD and rfc2307 - what are the *current* practices?
I would like to get samba4 working with AD and rfc2307 attributes, while
allowing the nice remote management available via samba4.
Using sernet-samba packages on 4.1.3-7.el6.x86_64 CentOS 6.
I have samba4 configured as follows:
krb5.conf:
[libdefaults]
default_realm = MAIN.ADLAB.NETDIRECT.CA
dns_lookup_realm = true
dns_lookup_kdc = true
ticket_lifetime = 24h
renew_lifetime = 7d

Help with Elite 800VA usb UPS
Ok, I am running NUT in dummy mode.
I have added a new ups in ups.conf
[dummy]
driver = dummy-ups
port = upsc.dev
desc = "dummy ups for testing purposes"
upsc.dev has been generated by exporting the Elit configuration.
I have added the monitor line in upsmon.conf and the "exec" flags (all the
events)

Hi, As far as I can see, what you are getting in syslog corresponds
correctly to what you have specified. You have specified that upsmon is
to call upssched-script _directly_. This means that the argument to the
script call will be the NOTIFYMSG value. But in upssched-script you are
testing for the notifytype, e.g. ONBATT.
Did you want that, or did you want NOTIFYCMD to point to upssched?
If I may throw away modesty, see chapter 4 in

SATA was explicitly designed for hot-swap with fixed, SCA-like,
staggered, fixed-position connectors with _no_ extra interconnect
(i.e., like SCA SCSI drives, SATA drives _should_ connect _directly_
to the backplane, and the "can" is just a frame/handle), so
_avoid_ doing such with [P]ATA which is only asking for issues.
The EN-8721x02 will only set you back $150, so it's well worth it
(especially when you're already spending $300 for the Escalade

You too my statement out of context.
I was talking about how to affect CentOS _directly_!
I didn't say those were the only ways to help Linux
in general.
Because, after all, the people I have a problem with aren't complaining
about what is or isn't available in the Linux world. They are complaining
why CentOS doesn't have this, and typically blaming Red Hat.

sendmail.cf and relaymail to a smtp server
Hello,
Who can help me I am trying to setup the sendmail so that I can mail the
voicemail's to an internet SMTP mail server.
I know that I have to setup the sendmail.cf and configured a relay to my
normal SMTP server.
I am running RedHat 9 and my internet provider has a SMTP mail server with
user and password authentication.

But regardless they are still structures, right? What does it mean for them to map onto other types? Is the parser supposed to treat them as if they _were_ those other types? If so, I think you need to define a type syste...

Whereis yum-rhn-plugin package?
Hi all,
I need to setup a repo server to allocate updates for RHEL3, RHEL4, RHEL5 and
CentOS5. Apart of mrrepo tool, I see that I can use reposync from yum-utils
package and yum-rhn-plugin package to setup a mirror update server. But I can't
to find yum-rhn-plugin under centos5 repo. Where is it?? Or I need to use
package released from upstream vendor??
Thanks

Re: Hot swap CPU -- shared memory (1 NUMA/UPA) v. clustered (4 MCH)

the test included database benchmarks that were less linear and
favored shared memory systems, then the results might have been
very different.
Frankly, if they wanted to make the "Linux v. Solaris" game stick,
they should have taken a SunFire V40z and compared _directly_.
Or at least pit a SunFire V40z running Linux against the same cluster,
as the costs are very much near each other.
So, in the end, I think this was a _poor_ test overall, because apples
and oranges are being compared. The clustered setup has _better_
failover, the shared memory system has _bette...

Re: Opteron Mobo Suggestions -- the follies of typical tape backup (it's the 21st century)
...the-time.
In the case of 3Ware cards, the system _never_ -- let me repeat that --
_never_ sees the ATA channel. The system, including the PCI
interconnect, _only_ talks to the on-board ASIC. The ASIC then drives
the ATA channels.
In FRAID, the system, it's CPU and the PCI bus drive and talk _directly_
to the ATA channels. Intelligent RAID uses its on-board intelligence
instead. FRAID doesn't have any.

Dude, this isn't about "right and wrong." It's _never_ about that.
It's about my sincerest wish not to s...

R 1.3.1 on OS9.1?
Dear List,
After my laptop was stolen I (eventually) replaced it with a G4
laptop running Mac OS 9.1 . This also meant I updated to the current
Mac binary 1.3.1. This is pretty wonderful except for one problem.
I normally save R figs as eps files using the Mac OS and then read
them into Latex documents. This no longer works as the legends
overwrite the diagrams. Saving as ps from R also does

strange limitation on rcmd()
The manual page says, that rcmd() is only to be used by root's processes.
On other OSes (Solaris, AIX), trying to call rcmd() without being root simply
fails.
FreeBSD, however, tries to be helpful and invokes rcmdsh in this case, which
is inefficient and leaves the stderr's filedescriptor (fd2p) unfilled.
Why?
My understanding is, this is to make it harder for would-be attackers to

Fix passwd/shadow/group files?
I've been copying old passwd/shadow/group files from system to system
for ages across different distributions/updates and would like to
get them back in sync with each other so the system tools will
work. Now they hang like:
#userdel irose
hangs forever, syslog says:
