[LLVMdev] Beginners question
...roceed? Basically, LLVM relies on the operating system for this. printf is part of the "standard I/O" library provided by libc on most unix-like systems. After adding a layer of buffering, libc ends up turning stdio calls into low-level system calls like read() and write(). If you want _direct_ access to the OS, you could do similar things. On the other hand, if you're working on a Ruby backend for LLVM, it might make most sense to define a Ruby/LLVM runtime library that includes more-or-less direct implementations of things like the ruby 'print' message for various types. [LLVMdev] Beginners question
Hello! I am doing some pre-studies for my masters thesis, which (hopefully) will result in a compiler prototype for Ruby to LLVM, and I have a question: 1. When reading the reference manual, I do not understand how e.g. simple I/O operations as printf() can be implemented in LLVM. Are there any external functions available, or how do I proceed? Kind regards Anders

Carrierwave Direct and additional form elements
I just switched a project from Dragonfly to Carrierwave, specifically to see if I could take advantage of Carrierwave Direct, which uploads large files directly to S3 or another cloud storage. I was able to make a form containing a single file field that would upload to S3. What I could not work out was how to upload the file to S3 AND other form elements to the model that had Carrierwave

Advice/directions to users of Syslinux
...In particular, SYSLINUX is not installed in the MBR, like other bootloaders (e.g. grub2) might do. Syslinux has some pros and cons. Each bootloader has them. Considering the (very) reduced (to say the least) support that "big names" are giving to The Syslinux Project, while providing _direct_ support for other bootloader projects, I find myself... uncomfortable(?) with the idea / implication that The Syslinux Project is not making enough to help users with their booting issues. In fact, Syslinux makes it simpler for the vast majority of common users. This is just my personal opini...

Theora, great stuff!
I manage the audio-video section of the GNU web site http://audio-video.gnu.org/. I have tried the Theora codec and am very impressed by the level of integration with free desktops and the bit rate/quality combinations. I intend to move all video content to the Theora codec partly for technical reasons but mainly to promote free and open formats. I do have longer term worries, projecting

Advice/directions to users of Syslinux
Hi, i now realized that http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#USB-Geometry http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#USB-Miscellaneous are the new wiki sections by Gene Cumm. (Sorry for not reading them when they were announced.) So i ask especially him whether the statement "An examle is a drive of 128,64,32 with a partition ending at

[OT] Memory Models and Multi/Virtual-Cores -- WAS: 4.0 -> 4.1 update failing
From: Maciej ?enczykowski <maze at cela.pl> > That's a good point - does anyone know what the new Intel > Virtualization thingamajig in the new dual core pentium D's is about? It's all speculation at this point. But there are _several_ factors. But I'm sure the first time Intel saw AMD's x86-64/PAE52 presentation, the same thing popped into my mind that popped
