Soft phones that _actually_ work under Linux?
Surely there has to be one soft phone that works under Linux.
I've tried:
kphone - it sometimes complains about the need to release the sound
device
linphone - sssssssslllllllllooooooooowwwwwww
iaxcomm - needs some strange widgets
various others - either only supplied as binaries, or just plain don't
work, or won't compile.
Is there just one out there that is guaranteed to work with

CentOS7 and "ip link alias"
...erface (don't let NetworkManager control
it or ifup-local won't be executed)...
... I have a question with hopefully a simple answer:
I placed an alias/description on my interface during testing and now I want
to remove it.
But when I try to remove it, I'm either trying to do something _actually_
not supported or I don't have the proper syntax to accomplish what I want.

[LLVMdev] all LLVM Instructions that may write to memory -- other than StoreInst?
...= *(&b);
llvm_cbe_tmp__8 = ((unsigned int )(((unsigned int )llvm_cbe_tmp__7) + ((unsigned int )llvm_cbe_tmp__6)));
*(&d) = llvm_cbe_tmp__8;
llvm_cbe_tmp__9 = /*tail*/ printf(((&_OC_str.array[((signed int )0u)])), llvm_cbe_tmp__8);
...
It seems the compiler-generated temps are _actually_ left on stack, and writes to them are actually writes to stack memory (via load, add, ...).
I am confused here.
Could somebody help to clarify it?
Thank you

Internet Explorer 6 Setup & App DB
Hi,
some time ago (around 7. May 2006) there was a coment in the App DB to get the
setup of Internet Explorer 6 working. The Coment was about removing some dll
names from the wine.inf file.
The coment was removed from the App DB, but the setup still fails for me with
current cvs (~2 hours ago).
Therefore i like two know two things:
- does anyone remember which lines needs to be removed

[PATCH 0/2] virtio-scsi: Implement FC_HOST feature
...he WWPN/WWNN of the associated host to the guest (nb:
will get interesting for non NPIV setups ...), but virtio scsi will
still do a LUN remapping.
IE the LUNs you see on the host will be different from the LUNs
presented to the guest.
This makes reliable operations very tricky.
Plus you don't _actually_ expose the FC host, but rather the WWPN of the
host presenting the LUN.
So how do you handle LUNs from different FC hosts on the guest?

It doesn?t look like ?ip link? has the syntax to remove an alias, but it can be done via sysfs:
# ip link show dev lo
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group de...

--delete reports all files deleted
...>/var/log/mirror.log
it looks like _every_ file has a line in the log that says
"deleting filename".
But it appears that files that exist on the SOURCE are still on the TARGET.
Why are the TARGET files being listed as deleted in my log file? Is
this correct behavior? Are the files _actually_ being deleted and then
copied?

MSSQL activerecord uses bad syntax
Hi all,
I''m trying to get rails up on mssql for a friend, does anyone have
experience? We''re working on a Windows XP box with MSSQL 2000 (no
service pak), and both rails (1.1) and MSSQL are on the same box. I''m
running into a bug (I think) where activerecord is using this syntax:
SELECT TOP 1 * FROM users WHERE (users.user = ''jbgnuumnbu'')

Silence Beeper => Which small UPS's actually support it?
...986
Unfortunately I live in 240v part of the world, so the number of
brands/models available is relatively limited, with APC, Belkin,
CyberPower, HP, KME, OPTI-UPS, Powerware, Upsonic being available.
Could anyone please provide information on any of the above brands of
small UPS's that do _actually_ support permanently switching off the
beeper.
Thanks

[PATCH 0/2] virtio-scsi: Implement FC_HOST feature
This series implements the proposed fc_host feature of virtio-scsi.
The first patch updates the data structure changes according to the spec
proposal; the second patch actually implements the operations.

current state of pxelinux for UEFI...
...me a while to track down the
'Debian Testing binary packages' - but using syslinux.efi and
ldlinux.e64 from these didn't work any better or worse than the
6.04-pre2 I had already got working ...
May be the Syslinux UEFI Wiki page(s) need to be updated with details of
which versions _actually_ work (and may be links to the working Debian
downloads) ?
Or even better, may be a working non-pre 6.04 release ?
Thanks

ext3 and secure deletion of files and file slack
Hi,
Can anyone please tell me if I am right in assuming that ext3
does not care about file slack? Specifically I am thinking about
the use of the secure_delete utility which, includes "sfill" to
do secure overwriting of the unused diskspace on the harddisk.
I quote from the secure_delete README below for its modus
operandi (I appreciate that some of this will not apply to
sfill).

rsync -auIn not doing what I expect (rsync 2.6.3)
...files that rsync -auIn prints
to std out, most of them show no difference. Am I correct in assuming
that rsync does not perform the checksum to detect if each file needs to
be transferred when using "-n"? Is there some way to force it to do the
checksum and tell me which files it would _actually_ transfer?
Thanks,
Bart

Numbers that look equal, should be equal, but if() doesn'tsee as equal (repost with code included)
Try the following function (the name is supposed to be a joke, by the
way),
which will also do the right thing with NAs and characters. Use it as
if(equal.enough(x,y)) rather than if(x==y), e.g.
> equal.enough(0.1+0.2, 0.3)
[1] TRUE
My default of 15 significant figures may be overkill in many
applications; be
prepared to reduce this.

A dialogue appears with the message

list manipulation
Hello,
I have a set of one-liners (many thanks to previous responses from this
list) that I use to look at newly imported data sets with functions like
dim(), names(), str(), etc. within lapply(). Generally, these commands
work for me but, I am apparently still missing some aspect of list
manipulation. I don't understand why I get a set of NULL list elements
at the end of each output as
