__MSBROWSE__ inconsistency
Linux 2.2.14, samba 2.0.7 Summary: samba kept __MSBROWSE__ registered but thought it was not the master browser. Details: 1) samba started and became master browser (6/13/2000 0.00) 2) then there was a problem on the network (I played with ipchains...) 3) samba received an announce from a win9x pc claiming it was MB (6/13/2000 circa 8.00AM) Due to the...

How are Browse lists maintained for Multiple Domains?
...Domain Master Browser for it's particular domain/workgroup and all the other DMB's see that packet and add it to their browse list. How does this work in an WINS environment? Or does it? By my understanding, when my (non-DMB) PC wants to browse the network, it sends out a request for __MSBROWSE__<01>. I can see this happening by # ./nmblookup -M - querying __MSBROWSE__ on 10.1.1.255 10.1.1.3 __MSBROWSE__<01> 10.1.1.100 __MSBROWSE__<01> 10.1.1.87 __MSBROWSE__<01> 10.1.1.9 __MSBROWSE__<01> 10.1.1.4 __MSBROWSE__<01> Presumably the client then queries each...

In trying to trouble-shoot this problem, I used the following command: [abrock@classroom-dhcp abrock]$ nmblookup -B x.x.5.255 -M - Sending queries to x.x.5.255 x.x.5.131 __MSBROWSE__<01> x.x.5.171 __MSBROWSE__<01> x.x.5.29 __MSBROWSE__<01> x.x.5.179 __MSBROWSE__<01> As you can see, x.x.5.154 was not listed. samba 3.0.1 nmblookup
I have FC1 + samba 3.0.1. From Nautilus I can't browse into smb:/// to view any available domain/workgroup. But I can go directly to any computer with smb:///conputer-name. When I tried to call 'nmblookup -M -- -' I get: querying __MSBROWSE__ on 192.168.0.255 name_query failed to find name __MSBROWSE__ #01 Does anyone know what's wrong? PS. Initially I had Samba 3.0.0 and because of the same issue I upgraded to 3.0.1 thanks, toblo

Two Simple Questions (Multi Home)
...n as a simple load balancer, so that the client requests could be spread over the different NIC cards. Is there anyone else that would be interested in a setup like this, besides me?? 3) On another subject, I notice that when I allow my NT4 Server to be the local master browser, the entry "__MSBROWSE__-[01h]" can be found in the WINS server database. However, if I let the Samba server become the local master browser, there is no "__MSBROWSE__" entry. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a problem?? Newer SMBTREE versions don't find all systems.
...again tonight 4.6.7 it has the same problem I've seen with the prior newer versions as well. The one I went back to was 4.4.15 which works. What is happening right now is there is a Win2K3 box that is the domain server, with thecompanydomain.com (NetBIOS domain name: COMPANY). That has the __MSBROWSE__ on it. I have a Linux Wheezy system on that is part of WORKGROUP and that also has the __MSBROWSE__ on it. On Win7 which is a member of the COMPANY domain and view network I see the PC1, PC2, I see the Wheezy machine, see another one that is a VM, See the main domain server, another terminal s...

LDAP: PDC to BDC replication issues
Harry, Thank you. Unfortunately we don't have the choice of upgrading LDAP due to distro not supporting the newer version. However we have managed to get it to work. A lot of fiddling around. I do have another question though ;). Now that we have LDAP replicating, how do I transfer the "samba classic " PDC role to our BDC. I have read that using the domain master=yes in smb.conf
