trying to rebuild an old nvidia driver
Let me start by saying that no, I can't get a new card for my user. So, I've got the 96 nvidia driver. I've rebuilt it several times before, and Nvidia's installer's always worked fine. Actually, I have the 73 on my system, and just updated to 5.5, and no problem. HOWEVER, I last rebuilt my user's driver back in mid-April, after the last kernel update (was that

To do List
http://wiki.centos.org/ToDo I come accross this: ""Add pages for nvidia / ati support ? maybe a howto for each ? * Should be put into the HardwareList. If sh ./install.bin is enough, I'll give it a shot later on. * ATI is there. I cannot do nvidia at the moment, as I cannot stop X on my nvidia machine (which is at work)."" I could

Upgrading 5.5 to 5.8 with yum?
Good afternoon, I've been running a CentOS 5.5 system for a while using some Nvidia drivers for an older Nvidia card (GeForce 6200 card). I'd like to upgrade to 5.8 using yum but I was curious if anyone has done this using yum? Any gotchas? (I can handle the Nvidia upgrade part once the system is upgraded). Thanks! Jeff BTW - I'm using driver 256.35 and looking at Nvidia's

Have you tried the RPMforge package? nvidia-x11-drv-96xx.i386 1.0.9631-1.nodist.rf rpmforge The dkms approach takes some of the pain out of rebuilding modules for new kernels. Phil

Does Wine support the NVIDIA 7186 drivers?
A query regarding WINE support for older hardware: Does Wine support the NVIDIA 7186 drivers, or are they too old and unsupported now? Following on from this post - http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=7509 and http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=6574&highlight=rome+total+war I've been playing around a bit. I've tried without installing DX9 as well as using Winetricks to

5.2 upgrade mostly good (so far)
Hi Guys! Thanks to the whole Centos team for all their hard work. You have no IDEA how much I appreciate it! I ran "yum upgrade" last night, rebooted this morning and encountered a couple of small problems: 1. "shutdown -h now" goes all the way down but does not power down the box like it always has before. Same when shutting down via the GUI shutdown dialog. I can offer up
