kernel oops generated by smbfs module
...and can sit for a long time. However, as soon as I start doing ls in directories on the mount, or tab-completing filenames (i.e. short reads), I get a kernel oops. This invariably happens within 20 seconds of starting to do this. I have tried two separate NICs (one tulip-compatible card and a 3com 905B) both of which have the same problem. The machine hangs whether or not smbfs is a module (although running it as a module makes the source of the oops more obvious). I have never debugged the linux kernel before. What information do you folks need from me? I have at least one of the oopses in /var...

Read/Write throughput problem. Any help would be appreciated
I have 2.0.6 running on a FreeBSD 3.4-current box with a 3com-905b NIC, linking to a 5-port 10/100 hub at 100Mb, half-duplex. I'm connecting to the share with an OSR2 box with another 905b at 100Mb, half-duplex. Here's the problem: I can write to the share at about 3.5 MB/s, but can only read at about 250k/sec. I tried FTPing a file from the BSD box a...

[Bridge] Problem Bridging VLANs
...ntering problems trying to setup a simple bridge/firewall between two vlans sharing portions of the same subnet, x.y.z.0/24. The VLANs are created and managed by a campus wide arrangement of Nortel Baystack 450's. The bridge machine has a "stock kernel" 2.6.0-test9, and two 3Com 905B nics enslaved to a single bridge. That's pretty high! Seems you're using a switch. I just get 3,5 MB/s in both directions using 905b NIC's and a hub, +-100kb, usually reading is slightly higher than writing. (my clients are slow and I still use 1.1...

conflict between Realtek 8139 (client) and 3c2000T (server) NIC's with Samba?
Hi, Last friday I changed the NIC in two of our Samba servers from a 3com 905b (100mb) to a 3com 2000T (1000mb) to take advantage of our new switch which supports gigabit. One of the workstations (XP SP1, with all subsequent patches and hotfixes and with an onboard Realtek 8139) then started to have problems with the two Samba servers with the new NIC's. It could see the...

Problem with multiple N/W cards
Hi, I am trying to set up a linux box with 5 N/W cards of which one is 10/100/1000T and the others are 10/100T. I connected all the cards and turned on the machine. I wanted to force eth0 to be the 1000T cards but the cards get allotted eth0 to eth4 randomly. Is there some way wherein I can force my 1000T card to be eth0. Also I want to turn off auto negotation & flow control on the 1000T

HTB stalling
Hi Couple months ago I started to have a strange problem with HTB. My setup is Fedora Core 2 + Pentium 2 233 + 128 MB of ram and its serving as a router. For some time since going to kernel 2.6 my HTB QoS Stalls for couple seconds, every couple minutes. If the connection load is bigger the stalling is more frequent and takes longer. I isolated the problem to be with HTB (CBQ works fine). The
