How do I check the real size of a filesystem?
I'm having a spot of bother with a large (900GB) partition. fdisk claims it's 900GB. I made an ext3 fs on it and df says it's only 94GB. Which is correct? Or did I do something wrong?

.glusterfs is over 900GB
...it until the application team migrates off Linux 5 (yes... I know). gluster-server is running version 6.10, gluster-client is mounting via NFS as 3.6 is not compatible with gluster-server 6.10. Anyways, the actual content of the volume is maybe a total of 15GB, but the .glusterfs directory is over 900GB, full of backups of the files? I feel that it's probably related to being unable to self-heal because it's only one volume, but then these files still just live out there. Can I safely delete them? Should I be doing something else? Do I just deal with it until I can get the client server o...

HVM domU doesnt start
...ame hard disk and it works perfectly. How is it possible? Could a corrupt image make impossible copy it? I''ve had this problem twice and I''ve to reinstalled the machine. Maybe I''m doing something wrong create the image with dd. I use the following command for a image of 900GB dd if=/dev/zero of=file900G.img bs=1M count=921600 I cant remember very well, but I think the issue is because I created a image with dd bigger than hard disk size, If I do it dd command doesnt says nothing, let''s to see that. # df -h Size Used Avail Use...

Reboots when importing old rpool
...tried to import it, with: # zpool import -f <long id number> Old_rpool but the computer reboots. Why is that? On my old hard disk, I have 10-20 BE, starting with OpenSolaris 2009.06 and upgraded to b134 up to snv_151a. I also have a WinXP entry in GRUB. This hard disk is partitioned, with a 900GB zfs TempStorage partition. I can import the TempStorage partition without problems, but can not import the rpool. How can I access my data from the old hard disk''s rpool? Any pointers or help would be appreciated. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Configure File System for Shadow Copy
The goal is to build a file server. I already have an LVM that was automatically created in the installation of Centos, including partitions below (sda1): /Dev/mapper/centos-root /Dev/mapper/centos-swap I added a second disk on the server, which was identified as sdb. If you need to configure the shadow copy only on an LVM, for my case, what do you advise: - Create a new LVM only to the

Max number of files in OCFS2 file system
Hi All, Please I would like to know what the maximum number of files (limit) is for an OCFS2 file system created on a x86_64 system with default options on a 900GB LUN. The system specs are listed below. It was noticed that at some point any attempt to create an additional file on the file system hangs the session and hangs accessto the file system as well. Attempts to start the application (zimbra) installed on the file system has the same effect. The file s...

Separate Zil on HDD ?
...(videos, music, recordings etc) Samba : for home directories for all networked PCs I backup the important data to external USB hdd each day. I previously had a linux NFS server that I had mounted ''ASYNC'' and, as one would expect, NFS performance was pretty good getting close to 900gb/s. Now that I have moved to opensolaris, NFS performance is not very good, I''m guessing mainly due to the ''SYNC'' nature of NFS. I''ve seen various threads and most point at 2 options; 1. Disable the ZIL 2. Add independent log device/s I happen to have 2 x 250G...

Rsync performance with large exchange database files
I'm using a mixture of FreeBSD w/ ZFS+snapshots and rsync to backup all the servers at my day job. This works pretty good overall but on one server it's not working so well :) We have an Exchange 2003 server with 4 separate mail store databases. One of them is roughly 900GB the others are ~200GB, ~160GB, and ~50GB. Rsync seems to spend a lot of time trying to find the differences in the files. On the Windows server where rsync is kicked off there's very little CPU or RAM usage for the rsync client. On the server rsync (rsyncd, no ssh) is using around 70-85% of...

Implicit storage tiering w/ ZFS
...about the inabiity to control where data lives when using different types of storage, eg a mix of FC and SATA disk in the extreme, mirror vs RAID-Z2, or as subtle as high RPM small spindles vs low RPM large spindles. For instance, if you had a database that you know has 100GB of dynamic data and 900GB of more stable data, with the above capabilities you could allocate the appropriate ratio of FC and SATA disk and be confident that the data would naturally migrate to it''s appropriate underlying storage. Of course there are ways of using multiple zpools with the different storage types a...

XenServer iSCSI / VDI Not Found
...second LUN, which contained the most important pair of VMs of course, did not mount properly. It is showing "Broken" / "Unplugged" still. At this point we are at a loss on how to get this LUN attached to the system again and functioning. We know the data is there because of the 900GB available on the LUN, ~300GB is used (the size of the remaining VMs). The data is intact, as far as we are aware, but we need to get it back and functional. Does anyone have any idea or can help? We tried calling Citrix support but it won''t let us get past their "enter ping number&qu...

very slow boot: stuck at mounting zfs filesystems
Hello list, I''m having trouble with a server holding a lot of data. After a few months of uptime, it is currently rebooting from a lockup (reason unknown so far) but it is taking hours to boot up again. The boot process is stuck at the stage where it says: mounting zfs filesystems (1/5) the machine responds to pings and keystrokes. I can see disk activity; the disk leds blink one after

(no subject)
Good day, I've got a question regarding the usage of rsync that I just cannot figure out. I've done a fare hunt for the answer, but I'm stumped. Here is the situation. I have two pc's running linux and using rsync to perform a backup from server1 to server2. For example: rsync -avzr -e 'ssh -i/root/.ssh/id_rsa' --delete /home/samba/admin/software

Architecture for large Dovecot cluster
Hi All, I am trying to determine whether a mail server cluster based on Dovecot will be capable of supporting 500,000+ mailboxes with about 50,000 IMAP and 5000 active POP3 connections. I have looked at the Dovecot clustering suggestions here: http://blog.dovecot.org/2012/02/dovecot-clustering-with-dsync-based.html and some other Dovecot mailing list threads but I am not sure how many

What project should I use ?
I am going to list my current plans for rebuilding a Law Firm?s network. I hope that someone will be able to tell me which project (samba or samba-tng) would be a better choice, or if staying with MS is the only choice. If my plan could be changed for the better, input would be greatly appreciated: A lot of this information is useless for my questions, but I am throwing it in anyway. --------

Dedicated server running ESXi with no RAID card, ZFS for storage?
Morning all... I have a Dedicated server in a data center in Germany, and it has 2 3TB drives, but only software RAID. I have got them to install VMWare ESXi and so far everything is going ok... I have the 2 drives as standard data stores... But i am paranoid... So, i installed Nexenta as a VM, gave it a small disk to boot off and 2 1Tb disks on separate physical drives... I have created a
