unaccounted for daily growth in ZFS disk space usage
We finally flipped the switch on one of our ZFS-based servers, with approximately 1TB of 2.8TB (3 stripes of 950MB or so, each of which is a RAID5 volume on the adaptec card). We have snapshots every 4 hours for the first few days. If you add up the snapshot references it appears somewhat high versus daily use (mostly mail boxes, spam, etc changing), but say an aggregate of no more than 400+MB a

How to debug: Cons memory exhausted
Hello, I get an error when binary structures from a pipe 'Error: cons memory exhausted (limit reached?)' (but R does not crash) This is probably due to some bug in my code, but occurs after reading about 85K pairs of RAWSXP objects (each < 20 bytes). I do not have any explicit calls to malloc/calloc I'm going through my code and have inserted the (brute force) printf statements my question is: Does anybody have an advice on debugging this particular error? Any help will be appreciated Regards...

windows xp slow directory listing
...f you do not use your mapped drive for sometime (did not counted) first listing is slow again. Until now, I could not find out the problem. If this is not a known problem, I captured my computer packets with "etheral" program. If somebody is interested, I can forward the capture file (85k). What I did during capturing was to click on mapped drive and wait until it lists the contents of the drive. After I stopped capturing. Increasing the DMESG buffer....
Hi, As a next question to my building this server. I'm nogt able to get a full verbose dmesg. Probably because the kernelbuffer for it is too small. I know there used to be a kernel option to increase it. But I can not find it with the setting in NOTES or any other place I looked.... Is it still there? Thanx, --WjW

Benchmarks
Just tried Dovecot with 85k mails from Linux kernel mailing list, total of 357MB. I mostly wanted to see if the new binary tree file works well. And it does :) Nothing gets slowed down after deleting messages all around the mailbox. I tried several things with Dovecot, UW-IMAPd and Courier. You'll see that Dovecot is fas...

are --temp-dir and --daemon mode compatible options
Hi, As far as I can tell, after version 2.6.4, the "--daemon" and "--temp-dir" options are not compatible anymore. Previous versions allow this. We use this heavily at my site. Is this an intentional change or bug? My command to start the daemon is this: /usr/local/bin/rsync --temp-dir=/.rsyncd-spool --daemon Thanks, -Eddie

[PATCH -qemu] nvme: support Google vendor extension
...=nvme-serial Using "fio": vm # fio -time_based --name=benchmark --ioengine=libaio --iodepth=32 \ --numjobs=1 --runtime=30 --blocksize=4k --filename=/dev/nvme0n1 \ --nrfiles=1 --invalidate=1 --verify=0 --direct=1 --rw=randread I get about 20k IOPs with the original code and about 85k IOPs with the vendor extension changes applied (and running a vendor extension supporting 3.14 based guest kernel). Signed-off-by: Mihai Rusu <dizzy at google.com> [fixed for a merging into different tree; added VID/DID params] Signed-off-by: Keith Busch <keith.busch at intel.com> [mli...

Memory usage in read.csv()
I'm sure this has gotten some attention before, but I have two CSV files generated from vmstat and free that are roughly 6-8 Mb (about 80,000 lines) each. When I try to use read.csv(), R allocates all available memory (about 4.9 Gb) when loading the files, which is over 300 times the size of the raw data. Here are the scripts used to generate the CSV files as well as the R code: Scripts (run

[ActsAsFerret] OpenSolaris (TextDrive) indexing issues
Gents, I successfully installed AAF on my TextDrive OpenSolaris Container, but I''m having some issues with indexing. I have a model called Blogs which has AAF enabled. The first time I tried to find_by_contents for a ''word'' I know was on the Database I got now results. Apparently the index was not ready yet. Then I waited a few hours and checked that the /index

[RFC PATCH 0/2] Google extension to improve qemu-nvme performance
Hi Rob & Mihai, I wrote vhost-nvme patches on top of Christoph's NVMe target. vhost-nvme still uses mmio. So the guest OS can run unmodified NVMe driver. But the tests I have done didn't show competitive performance compared to virtio-blk/virtio-scsi. The bottleneck is in mmio. Your nvme vendor extension patches reduces greatly the number of MMIO writes. So I'd like to push it

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
