RealTek 8168B (Rev 02) Issue
The 8168B (02) NIC works well except that it does not go into promiscuous mode despite advertising itself in that mode after being so directed with ifconfig. Unfortunately, the little box is destined to be an IDS monitor, so that function is essential. The board is an Intel Atom 330 run as x86_64, the ni...

Samba running slow
...years I have been a happy samba user, running samba on Redhat / FC platforms. Recently I upgraded hardware, and Samba hasn't been performing well at all.. which makes me sad :-( The new hardware is Asus P5B board with a dual-core intel processor. This board has an onboard Realtek RTL8111/8168B gigabit ethernet controller, which was a hassle to setup. FC6 default kernel 2.6.18-x doesn't have drivers for it. Upgrading to the latest kernel 2.6.19-1 fixed that. Since then I have verified that both web and ftp servers are functioning normally. I use apache 2.2.3-5 and vsftpd 2.0.5-...

Odd transfer speed issue
Hi all, I'm seeing slow transfers to/from my samba server. I just tried to copy a 270MB file from a samba share to an XP machine. At first, the estimated time displayed as 141 minutes :( The odd thing is that if I then flood-ping from the server (in this case, I pinged my dsl router), the transfer completes in about 10 seconds. Hitting F5 repeatedly when browsing a share on the server

r8169-driver CentOS5.2
...Phenom. This is a small uATX-board with all the garnish integrated motherboards are supposed to come with, and fairly well supported in CentOS 5 and other modern distros. When I installed it (~2 months ago) the NIC was not supported; Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. XCP 1.0 beta Realtek 8168 nic not working
...cores total (Phenom II 1090s). I''ve built three machines, installed XCP 1.0.0 beta on them and they all three have the same problem - the Realtek network cards don''t work. The following is the output from lspci 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03) I also put in an Intel e1000 card in each box and it works. I booted off a live Ubuntu 10.04 CD and both network cards worked beautifully. I booted up on a CentOS 5.5 DVD and went into Rescue mode and both cards worked. Is this a driver issue with X...

Can''t ping gateway (SOLVED !!!!)
HI again, This is the solution to my problem, hope it helps someone in the future. First of all, thanks to Ramachandran Radhakrishnan for helping me with this. The problem was my NIC: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01) What happens, is that the NIC''s driver sets the HWADRRESS = FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF, and that''s the same address used in xenbr0 What you need to do, is set the address manually. in Centos you can do this by setting /etc/sysconfig/networ...

Problem with driver disk on amd64
Hi, I have a really strange problem with a driver disk (http://wiki.centos.org/HardwareList/RealTekRTL8111b) on amd64. I'm remotly booting the system via isolinux-files, so I unfortunatly do not have access to relevant logs, all I can see the the primary console/screen. With i386, the driver disk works just fine and I can install via http. But with amd64, the installer complains no driver

Eth1 problem on CentOS-6.3
I am trying to transport a dd image between to hosts over a cross linked gigabit connection. Both hosts have an eth1 configured to a non routable ip addr on a shared network. No other devices exist on this link. When transferring via sftp I received a stall warning. Checking the logs I see this: dmesg | grep eth e1000e 0000:00:19.0: eth0: (PCI Express:2.5GT/s:Width x1) 00:1c:c0:f2:1f:bb

Jumbo frames problem with Realtek NICs?
I was trying to do some performance testing between using iSCSI on the host as a diskfile to a guest vs the VM guest using the iSCSI device directly. However, in the process of trying to establish a baseline performance figure, I started increasing the MTU settings on the PCI-express NICs with RTL8168B chips. First bottleneck was discovering the max MTU allowed on these is 7K instead of 9K but googling seems to indicate that the RTL8168B is only capable of 4K frames. I assumed 4K would still be better than nothing but unfortunately bumping up the MTU to anything else but 1.5K caused the file tr...

eth0 killed when adding virtual interface and multiple NICs are present
...dd a virtual interface. It's got something to do with the NIC ordering or with the xen network script having a problem with multiple NICs and virtual interfaces. I could need some help/comments on this. Some history: I added a NIC (chip identifies as Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet) to a Dell R200 server. CentOS 5.3 with Xen 3.3.1 (gitco repo). eth0 and eth1 are the built-in NICs, this is then eth2 (or it should be). Works. Everything is fine until I add a virtual interface to eth0 and reboot. I can add eth0:1 at runtime just fine. But if I let...
