resize LVM (ext3)
Hello guys,
my scenario is following
1. I have LVM group named "system"
2. I have a logical volumes
- system/root , ext3 mounted as / (20GB)
- system/swap, swap
- system/home, ext3 mounted as /home (431GB)
I need to shrink system/home to 80GB (currently there is 57GB used) and use
free space to create another logical volumes.
My scenario is
1. reduce ext3 fs size to 80GB by using resize2s
2. reduce system/home size by using lvreduce
3. create another logical volumes
Questions
1. How can i be sure that i will shrink ex...

scrub on snv-b107
scrub completed after 1h9m with 0 errors on Tue Feb 17 12:09:31 2009
This is about twice as slow as the same srub on a solaris 10 box with a
mirrored zfs root pool. Has scrub become that much slower? And if so,
why?

Backing up my server...
Helo, I've just installed a CentOS 4.0, postgress,iptables, ect.. on a P
4 Intel using sotf RAID 1 ...and everything is fine. I bought
a HP DLT 40/80G tape device for being use as tape backup to my server.
My questions are:
1. What you recomended me to use as a soft backUP. (amanda,
dump/restore, TAR scipts, other)?
2. How can I backUP my entire filesystem ..(I mean everything using one
the above software)?
3. What software can I use to put thi...

virsh snapshot
...napshot-create APP03 .
I then wanted the domain to be called APP01 for clarity's sake, so I did virsh dumpxml APP03 > APP03.xml, edited the name to APP01 and changed the ID. I then did virsh define APP03.xml to get APP01.
I have now realised that the qcow2 images are huge (1.1TB image but 80G inside the virtual machine), I am assuming this is the snapshots tagged onto the virtual hard disk?
How do I reduce the size of those back to something realistic? I've removed old snapshots from APP03 using virsh snapshot-delete APP03 '<snapshotidnumber>
Hope this makes sense

Hi,
I'm setting up ocfs on opensuse 10.3 with kernel 2.6.22.5-31 .
Appreciate if you could guide on the solution to this error.
I have a secondary hard disk (80G)
created raw paritions
primary /dev/sdb1 - 12G
extended /dev/sdb2 - 12G comprising of /dev/sdb5 - 4G /dev/sdb6 - 3G

Add more space to LVM
I have a database server that is running out of space. All my databases
are being stored in a 80G /opt partition. Because I'm using LVM,
wouldn't I be able to pop the HDDs (a h/w raid volume) in, add it to the
LVM, and resize my ext3 /opt partition? Everything that I've been
reading says this is possible, but I'm not sure. Has anyone done this
and are there any pitfalls to wa...

finding a memory leak - committed memory SPIKES!
Hey folks,
I've got a RHEL 4.3 system (one of the few I have not yet converted to
CentOS) that is running DB2 ... looks like 8.1
Just noticed that committed memory on my Munin graphs has been
steadily climbing on a constant curve - yikes!
There are 16G of physical ram and the commit is up to 80G now.
Fortunately this is evidently not being accessed because I am not
doing any swapping.
I've been googling for over an hour now - found lots of interesting
stuff to read up on, but not exactly what I'm looking for!
How do I find the memory leak? What I"m really looking for is a...

Transcode lossy to further reduced lossy to stream over Icecast
Situation:?
* remote virtual server with very little storage (estimate: I can
spare about 40G for music)
* local music collection of ~80G in all sorts of formats - lossy in
varying quality, some lossless too
Vision:
* stream my whole music collection randomized so I can listen to it
anywhere
Plan/Idea:
* Locally transcode everything to one format that results in files
that are?
- small enough to fit on my server, alt...

Xen dom0 load affecting domUs
...e close to 4-5 Virtual machines running on the Xen server.
The problem is that for some reason, carrying outany CPU/Disk intensive task on the Dom0 seems to be affecting the DomUs adversly. For ex.i noticed that my Domus become extremly sluggish if i use a ''dd'' command to create a 80G file on the Dom0,is this behaviour normal ? I guess, may be i should use a Sparse file instead ?
So if i have more VMs,do i need to allocate more resources for the Dom0 in terms of memory and cpu ? As of now all the VMs use a loopback device in the Dom0 .
Thanks !!
