802.1x support in wired sip hardphones ?
Hi,
Is anyone aware of a wired sip hardphone supporting 802.1x authentication ?
I've been told some Avaya and Alcatel ip phones supported 802.1x.
As 802.1x is widely used with wireless hardphones, I'm wondering whether or
not, 802.1x could also be valuable for wired environments.

OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in diferent VLANs (with 802.1x)
Hello to all
I would like to know If some of you have already configured an Cisco IP
Phone (7940 or 7960) to work in a different VLAN than the PC that is
connected through the phone switch?
I know that this can be done with the Skinny firmware, but I dont if it
works with the SIP firmware.
The Cisco technical staff told me that these phones dont support 802.1x
but can work as pass-through.

IEEE 802.1x capable sip phones
Does anyone know if sip phones from any of the major IP phone vendors
support 802.1x authentication? Any feedback would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in diferent VLANs(with 802.1x)
Cisco phones act a as a switch.
If you do not use the CDP protocol to "tell" the phone it needs to be in
a special VLAN (802.1q) then it will just use the access port settings
on the switch, and, also allow the PC connected to the 2nd Ethernet port
to have access to the network.
However, if you have an all cisco powered network, with all cisco
phones, I could advise you to use the CDP

machine authentication at Active Directory
On a 802.1X environment, it's possible to permit a windows
desktop gain access to the network by using only machine
authentication at the Active Directory (no need for login +
password).
Is it possible to do the same with a Linux desktop with samba? I
mean a Linux desktop pass machine credentials to Active Directory
as windows do (SID), without any login and password.

You could use cron and /var/spool/asterisk/outgoing scripts to dial

OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in different VLANs(with802.1x)
Switch is only tagging the vlan packets. Once the PC loads the vlan
aware driver ("client") it will be able to read tagged packet for the
vlan which PC has been configured to use. Nothing to be done on the
switch.

samba AD trusted certificate for RADIUS server (MS PKI, for example AD CS)
Hi,
We are running a 3 DC samba AD domain, and use 802.1x authentication for
the win10 workstations to access the wired network.
We are facing the issue where, following windows updates, our windows
clients keep changing back the 802.1x settings to the windows default,
namely: to verify the server identity and do computer authentication only.
The latter is no problem, but the first one

Can we get a newer version of madwifi on rpmforge?
RPMforge still has:
rpmForge:
madwifi-0.9.2.1-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm
ATrpms has:
madwifi-0.9.4-38_r2512.fc6.i386.rpm but requires their patched kernel.
I am at IETF this week, and was at IEEE 802 last week.
There are over 60 visible access points in most locations (actually not
that may APs, but an SSID for b/g, another for a, another for 802.1x
TKIP, another for 802.1x CCMP, argh!) and I

Stronger security with BSD Firewall and Freeradius
I've seen that is possible to use switch port blocking with freeradius
and cisco switches via 802.1X and EAP protocol. Here is more info:
http://wiki.freeradius.org/FreeRADIUS_Active_Directory_Integration_HOWTO
What if I don't have switch that supports 802.1X or I want that blocking
is done by FreeBSD, not the switch. Because FreeBSD is the firewall or
gateway to some networks. Is there

freeradius + NTLM + samba AD 4.5.x
Hi,
we have updated our samba AD domain from 4.4.x to 4.5.x.
The release notes for 4.5.0 included "NTLMv1 authentication disabled by
default".
So we had to enable it to get our radius (freeradius) server working
(for 802.1x).
What would be the best way to change the freeradius configuration in
such a way,
that we can disable NTLMv1 again.
The radius server is used for WLAN

FreeRadius + Dynamic VLANs/802.1x Authentication
Has anyone setup FreeRadius to do automatic VLAN assignments on their
switches based on client mac addresses? If so, would you be willing
to share your radius configs? I haven't touched radius since mid 90's
and am stuck trying to get this to work. It would be much
appreciated.
thanks

Re: 802.1x machine authentication patch help
I found my problem. From Andrew Bartlett himself "This is not supported
against NT4. Only Samba 3.0.21rc1 and AD support
this extra flag." To do machine authentication with freeradius, your
workstation (supplicant) and samba server must be a member of a
2000/2003 domain. I had the supplicant and samba server still a member
of the nt4 domain. Once I changed this, it worked great.

freeradius + NTLM + samba AD 4.5.x
It is an issue that I myself would also like to solve.
I found multiple threads in samba and freeradius mailing lists. It seems
that every couple of months there is question like this either here on
FR mailing list and all point down to the same issue, that is:
freeradius uses ntlm_auth (even when using winbind with newer freeradius
versions, it also in the end uses ntlm_auth). And since

wbinfo -a tim.odriscoll%<mypass> works perfectly, with the winbindd debug logs

Having a very restricted access policy
Hi there,
I''m not sure if I can do this with shorewall, but any points on the
right direction would be of great help...
I need to have a LAN with access only enabled to certain set of
computers. I was planning on having the dhcp server just give IPs to
certain MAC addresses, but if a smart guy configures his computer
manually with a valid IP for the LAN he can get access to the LAN

Change computer password
Hi,
we work on authenticating computers via 802.1x with Samba AD as backend
of Radius. Everything looks promising.
We ask ourselves if it is a good idea to use the machine account which
are created by joining a computer to the AD.
We can change machine account passwords with `samba-tool user
setpassword COMPUTERNAME$` This works, we have SUCCESS with `eapol_test`
on the Radius server.
