Shorewall site search is now available agai n
Hmm--either the indexing process is still running, or it''s broken again. It''s 0443 GMT, and I can''t get the search engine to find anything on the mailing list or the web site (I used ''dns'' as my search term). It''s not that big of an inconvenience, though--Googling for ''site:shorewall.net dns'' does pretty much the same thing.

Lagged Extension
Hi There I have an extension which is in a different country and is constantly lagged (about 800ms). When anyone tries to call this extension we get a No route to destination message. Now I would have thought that the server should be able to find a route to the destination seeing as the peer poke finds it's way there. Or is that lag too much to create a SIP channel? Thanks in advance...

HTB mpu and overhead settings for PPPoE ADSL?
...over the wire, everything works fine. But if there are many small packets saturating my uplink, I get pings of 1000ms and above. To minimize this effect I''ve set the HTB qdisc rate to 100kbit/s. But even now, throttling my uplink to lower than 80% of physical bandwidth, pings go up to 800ms in some cases. Today I''ve noticed, that two additional parameters have been added recently to the HTB-shaper: mpu and overhead. Are this new parameters suitable for solving my problem? Which are smart values for this two settings? I''m shaping the ppp-device directly, not the e...

Random Intermittent Noise for SIP to FX0 calls plus echo
...has had the experience I have been having. In reading recent posts on echo cancellation, I think there is.... We recently cut over the Asterisk and are configured with 5 FXS and 2 FXO ports to the PSTN via 2 TDM400P's and 5 SIP phones on our local network. I have set up echo cancellation with 800ms echo training. I do not have echocancelwhenbridged on, since since this is for complete TDM circuit per the comments in zapata.conf. When calls come in, there is echo, but it quickly trains and goes away. This is not the problem though. The asterisk server has 1GB RAM and 1GHz clock. We are current...

High network latency on first packet
...4.6 ms 64 bytes from 5.6.7.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=51 time=25.3 ms 64 bytes from 5.6.7.8: icmp_seq=3 ttl=51 time=25.2 ms ^C --- 5.6.7.8 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2003ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 24.612/25.068/25.300/0.371 ms Initial time goes up as high as 800ms. My guess is that this has something to do with arp. Since when a host is in the arp cache, the delay disappears, which is why the second ping gets an immediate reply. I tried specifing mac addresses in the domU cfg files and playing with domU routing flags without apparent benefit. Is this an is...

speex voice seems to be bit breaking over long distance.
Dear all, I have implemented speex. Under LAN environment, everything is working fine. However, when the source and destination is about 20 hrs away, with ping response time of about 800ms, the voice is breaking. Breaking means you can not hear a smooth voice. Like the voice is being "chopped" into many pieces. The amount of packet lost is less than 10%. I have tried 8KHz, 16KHz, 32KHz. The bigger it gets, the more lousy the quality. I believe I have enough bandwidth since...

Problem with Digium TDM04B
I have installed Digium TDM04B with the latest CVS. However I have encountered following problems: 1. When it dials out, many times the digits are not properly recognized by telco as I hear the announcement "please check the number and dial again" although I see on the screen that the dialed number is correct. 2. When the call is forwarded outside, with something like exten =>

[PATCH v11 06/16] qspinlock: prolong the stay in the pending bit path
...ds on the CPU chip that we used for testing. I ran my test on a 10-core Westmere-EX chip. I run my microbench on different pairs of core within the same chip. It produces different results that varies from 779.5ms to up to 1192ms. Without that patch, the lowest value I can get is still close to 800ms, but the highest can be up to 1800ms or so. So I believe it is just a matter of timing that you did not observed in your test machine. -Longman

Using Zyxel Analog Telephone adapter with a GSM gateway
...ension -> Asterisk -> ZyxelAnalogTelephoneAdapter -> GSM gateway. The best way would be to make the ZyxelAnalog.. to be a channel. But I don't think that is doable.. or ? ---- So i checked with Dial command.. trying to use something like: exten => 99,1,Dial(SIP/11,20,D($EXTEN),w=800ms) ; Dial option ; 'D([digits])' -- Send DTMF digit string *after* called party has answered ; but before the bridge. (w=500ms sec pause) Problem is, that the astrisk won't push the $EXTEN numbers. (or does it ? I can't hear anything :-| ) My console (verbose l...

Call in progress tones
...is busy. I don't want to force "R" on the Dial app as then you can get "ring ring, ring ring, rin, beep beep beep" when the phone is busy. What I want is something to play during the call setup or "making progress" stage of the call. just a series of beeps about 800ms apart until the phone call is actually set up... so then you would get something like "bip, bip, bip, bip, bip, ring ring, ring ring..." for ringing or "bip, bip, bip, bip, bip, beep, beep, beep..." for busy. Any ideas? Mikel

[PATCH 0/2] allow partly reclocking on chipset
some chipset have working engine reclocking, but broken memory reclocking like Fermi. We should for now, add the functionality to allow partly reclocking for those. Allthough this doesn't give as much performance as one might wish, it is till noticeable and may improve performance enough to be noted. tinc for Satellite connections (benchmarking)
Hello. I'm living in the country side where the communications are very very poor. My only choice is Satellite connection throw the French company Eurona which uses the network deployed by Skylogicnet. In general the latency is very bad (~800ms) and the network is very unstable. I have been investigating in the ISP routers which are in my path and there are many hops which are done in a private network (10.130.130.0/24). I think one or more of these hops are doing some kind of HTTP proxy cache and also many dirty stuff like blocking some...

GSOC 2018: Diversification of Search Results
...briefly presenting the details of the methods that I propose to implement: 1) Implementing GLS-MPT: First I'll be implementing the GLS algorithm (details on page 6 of [2]) with objective function based on MPT (details on page 13 of [2]). According to the paper, avg. latency for the GLS-MPT is ~800ms (table V of [2]), which involves preprocessing (storing pairwise distance of top N documents, N = 100) and the actual diversification which finally returns top-k (k = 20) diversified results. Note: k = 20 and N = 100 are suitable as usually users don't page too far and even if they do, it's...
