Repository issue with R 2.8.0 in Ubuntu 8.10
Dear List, I'm not an expert on Linux but I have been using Ubuntu and R sice two years ago. I've just installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (8.10, Kernel: 2.6.27-7-generic) from the scratch and then installed R, following the instruction given on: http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README, and everything worked fine. However, after the installation I realized that the installed

compile under Ubuntu 8.10 (Ibex)
I fired up a new machine last night and loaded Ubuntu 8.10 on it. I then had to add in the usual compiler stuff which is not loaded by default: make, emacs, fortran, c++, etc. I'm having trouble compiling R 2.8 however. I get a message that it cannot figure out how to link f77 and C. I've pulled in "gfortran". A google search on "fortran ubuntu 8.10" shows

Ubuntu 8.10: Package installation fails (lf77blas problem)
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 (i386) from 8.04. After the upgrade, I ran update.packages(.libPaths()[1]) in R to get the packages installed from source up to date too. Unfortunately, two packages could not be updated: mclust and mboost. In both cases, the error I got mentioned lf77blas. Here's the output for mboost: * Installing *source* package 'mboost' ... ** libs gcc -std=gnu99

strange rails error on ubuntu 8.10
Just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10, which bumped my Ruby version to 1.8.7, and my Rails app (frozen to 2.2.2) gets a strange error on startup. I can easily reproduce just by running script/about: $ script/about /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_view/template_handler.rb:11:in `initialize'': wrong number of arguments (0 for 1) (ArgumentError) Anyone else having trouble with Rails on Ubuntu

Problems with "samba share" after return from standby/sleep with Ubuntu 8.10
I have a D-Link DNS-323 NAS Drive which I'm accessing from a desktop PC running Ubuntu 8.10. When I first mount the DNS-323 share, everything is hunky-dory. I can access folders and files and save them. However, when my desktop PC has returned from standby I have problems saving files, which manifests itself in a number of ways: (1) If I "drag and drop" copy a file from another

R under Ubuntu 8.10 / Wine
It looks as if installing R under Ubuntu 8.10 is going to be much more complicated than I thought it was going to be. I hadn't realized that it would depend on installing so many other packages (about 23, it seems), many of which also have their own dependencies. So I wondered whether all of these are really essential, and whether there is a single package anywhere that includes them all for

Ubuntu 8.10 (32 bit), Wine 1.1.8, Baldur's Gate 1 problem.
Hello everyone, First of all let me say I'm a linux newbie, having only used the OS for a few days. I'm currently experiencing a problem with trying to get Baldur's Gate 1 to run. The install went flawlessly (Ubuntu 8.10, Wine 1.1.8) however when the launcher pops up. No matter what I click it hangs. I've tried all of the windows types in the Wine configuration panel but the

winehq web. wine configuration in Ubuntu 8.10
Hi I wanted to install wine using your apt source in my recently installed Ubuntu 8.10, but when I got to the installation page (http://www.winehq.org/download/deb), but it didn't say how to install it in Intrepid Ibex (at least in spanish, which is the language I can see that page on). As easy as this, just follow the instructions and add the key: wget -q

I had a reliable rsnapshot backup system in place with ubuntu 8.04 and my windows desktop. After fresh installing 8.10 I consistently got: rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(794)

Ubuntu 8.10 - Irfanview - no longer able to install or use
I'm not sure if it's related or different, but I've found that the latest version of Irfanview (I think that's 4.23) will install, but will not run properly on wine in OSX. I had to move back to Irfanview 4.10 which still works fine on my system. I'm running OSX Tiger and Wine ver. wine-0.9.53. I didn't want to fuss with why 4.23 won't work since it wasn't

Small Issue: Centering Application Ubuntu 8.10
I recently migrated to ubuntu 8.10, from fedora 10 and opensuse 11.1 before that. Curiously, when in fullscreen mode wine draws applications to the upper left of the screen as opposed to center. Im sure there is a simple command line param to fix this, I don't see it in the wiki though...
