DNAT Accross Bridge
I run a Virtual Machine that uses SSH to remote forward Windows File Sharing securely across the net. I need to forward several servers and I map them to different high numbered ports on the SSH server (virtual machine), 10139,10140,10141. The virtual machine is connected to a bridge xenbr0 on the host system that also acts as a router - the server and a single interface on the host machine are

how to keep user/group information when rsyncing to windows for restoring back to
I am guessing that you would like to use rsync to create a bootable
backup. It may also be worth while spending some time looking at
CloneZilla or even dd?
Dd is a really great tool. You know a copy of the device is bit for
bit.
You can then use rsync to make incremental copies of these directories
which regularly change.
In this situation you can restore the machine and then

without passwd
Hi, I have two Fedora box and rsync running on both systems. One system ip
is 192.168.1.110 and the other is 192.168.1.71. I run manually for the
following commands in both systems. my problem is whenever run it asking
the user passwd and i cannot run the same automatically using crontab. My
question is how to avoid the passwd option...
rsync -aPrv rsync://192.168.1.110/detailing/

how to crypt hard linked backups?
Moin,
I wrote a backup script, that use rsync and its hardlink features. Now I want
to implement a new feature to my script: crypt the backuped files. But I
wonder how this can be done? Because rsync check if the source file is
different from the target file. But the target file will be allways different
if it is crypt; right?
Any idea?
Thanks

Does rsync support resuming feature?
Hi All,
Does rsync support resuming feature?
Now, this is the case, when we back a 4GB file, for example.
I have backed up for about 2GB in progress, and we found this is a connnection problem to Internet, so we simply re-plug the net-cable and do rsynce again.
Currently, I found rsync have to re-transfer the 4GB file again.
Is there any way out of the problem or simply an option will do?

cryptic output with itemized option
Hi,
Could any one please tell me if there is any way to remove 11 letters long
cryptic output from -ii option.
I am using rsync 3.0.5
rsync -av -stats -ii --log-file-format='CONTENTS: %i %f %l %o %b'
--log-file='/tmp/rsync-test' Mydocs/ Mydocs1/"
The output of this command:

--exclude patterns
Hi,
I want to rsync a large number of files from A to B, but I need
to exclude certain files. Specifically, A has
/test/runs/{1,2,3,...,2500}, i.e., about 2500 directories here.
However, I only want to transfer the directories that are
numbered 2000 or higher, i.e., I want to exclude
/test/runs/{1,2,3,...,1999}, so I tried this:
rsync --include='/test/runs/***' \

Rsync behaviour on harddisc crash
I was just pondering:
Lets look at Server A with one extra harddisc hdb, where hdb1 is mounted at /mnt/folder.
/mnt/folder is the folder which should be mirrored on Server B.
So Server B rsyncs
rsynch -a -delete server::folder /folder
from Server A and gets all the new files and deletes all the files, which doesn't exist on Server A's /mnt/folder anymore.
What would happen,

Pipe creation problem: From Java app using rsync + ssh on windows with cygwin
Hello,
I'm having trouble calling rsync from java on windows vista with cygwin
installed.
Its strange as pasting the exact same command into a command shell works
fine.
My test java call looks like this.

String[] envVars = {"PATH=c:/cygwin/bin;%PATH%"};
File workingDir = new File("c:/cygwin/bin/");
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("c:/cygwin/bin/rsync.exe

Latency and Rsync Transfers
Hello,
Working a few servers that are transferring data across country with a 75ms
delay on a GIGE connection. We can tune the tcp buffers on linux to improve
the connections using iperf. Does rsync use the tcp buffers of the OS or
does it override these settings?
Thanks,
Neal

Rsync + SSH on a different port + restricted access
Hello,
I'm trying to setup Rsync over SSH with openSSH running port 2222 with a remote RSA public key authentification and a restricted shell to avoid the user to browse my server via SSH, only be able to run rsync server.
1) i've built a regular rsync server over TCP/873
Worked fine, check my conf :
motd file = /etc/rsyncd.motd
log file = /var/log/rsyncd.log

Rsync with direct I/O
As far as I can tell rsync doesn't support this. How hard would it be
to implement this? Is it trivial enough to just change the calls in the
code with sed? I think this can significantly reduce CPU usage and
increase I/O speed when dealing with fast storage solutions. It can make
a huge difference when say transferring 30TB of data.
Here are some tests I did. So far the only thing I know

Rsync via two ssh tunnels possible (standard method mentioned k times not possible?)
Hi list,
After reading rsync docu and doing online search, I still failed to find
a simple solution for following problem:
The goal is to sync two directories using rsync without running the
rsync daemon on one of the two hosts. The standard shell sync does not
work because of the network topology:
Ssh connect to SRC-Host
^
Base host (with ssh keys)

Alternatives to programmatically calling the rsync binary a lot
Dear list, I'd like to have your expertise opinion on following issue.
Out of a concrete need we developed an application that will rsync any
changes on a local directory structure to a remove system the moment they
happen using the linux kernel watch feature. This is in our opinion much
more elegant compared to invoking rsync every x seconds/minutes from cron,
or having to use a special

Hi!
I do a rsync between 2 machines. The throughput is only 2 MByte/Sec.
Each machine is a Supermicro server with

1 LSI MegaRAID SAS 9280-24i4e
24 x 2TByte SATA Disks as a RAID6

Both use rsync version 3.0.7 protocol version 30

Thank you. The line of code you give certainly resolves several of the

I didn't realize that font support is such a tough matter to realize. Let me
express my gratitude to those who provide this for us in R.
