authentication problems
Hello,
I have set up a samba server 3.1.2.
I want to run it as a PDC.
Final target is to use it with LDAP and Kerberos.
At the moment I use tdbsam as backend.
I have authentication problems. Everything is running, I have set the
root password, I have created some user account on SAMBA and UNIX.
I am lost. I followed the docs (Examples) except for the firewalling and
BDC setup (I don't need

wine problem - cannot write to directory
...It starts and I am getting a message that I have no permition to write on
my Win c:\ disk.
I checked that root is owner of c:\ directories, so I switched to root
user (even my userid is defined in the same group as root) and I am
gettin a message that root cannot run wine.
So I tried to "chmod 774 Agent" (Agent is directory of Agent program I
tried to run), but "ls -al" showed that c:\Agent directory permitions
were not changed (stayed rwxr-xr-x).
Any idea how to solve this problem?
Thanks,
Zalek

Default permissions for creating a new user
I know this is a Linux 101 question, however I am unable to
locate the answer in my O'Reilly Linux book: how to set the
default for permissions when creating a new user. The default
for the GUI in my newly installed Centos 5.5 is 700. I usually
use 774.
And when root creates a new directory, is there a way to have a
default there too?
Lastly, if root or someone with root privileges creates a
sub-directory, is there a setting so that the sub-directory will
have the owner/group and permissions as the parent directory?

Change in behaviour for the "%U" substitution in 4.10.8?
...ame' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [username] Error was No such file or directory

My [homes] share looks pretty standard:

?? browseable = no
?? writeable = yes
?? printable = no
?? create mask = 774

And the folders in question _do_ exist as /shares/DOMAIN/username as they always have.
I find it hard to believe that the one change that went into Samba 4.10.8 could have broken this behaviour, but here we are...I did notice that my ca...

I'm trying to get nut running on my Raspberry (bullseye/11). (I'd also

I compiled the latest code from git: version 2.8.1-774-g963abbd87
I compiled it on one system that does NOT have a UPS, to "package" for my
three other UPS-monitoring systems.
Here's the general history/steps.

did not take detailed notes of every last diagnostic ef...

Using umask
...the file attributes, though from
time to time I have to review the "sticky bit"; what I do not
understand is where/how the attributes are set when a user
creates or modifies a file/directory. Here is my situation:
My /var/www/html files have been manually set by me to
apache/apache 774. This allows my PHP applications to access the
files, and I assume this is a "good" setting.
Now, my server is connected via Samba to my desktop. If I create
a file, it is todd/todd 744, so Apache cannot access them.
If PHP (Apache) creates or modifies a file, it is apache/apache
