CentOS 5 Issues Booting Under VMWare

I have done a "minimal install" of CentOS 5 (all checkboxes in the
category/task selection screen are unchecked -- so to X-Windows

Workstation 4.5 and the host OS is Windows XP Pro. I have not been
able to install the VMWare tool since I can't get it to finish
booting.
Has anyone else run into this? I have seen some discussion on the
list about VMWare and CentOS 5, but nothing that seemed t...

Multi-dbox storage space
...ormant and that it
would conserve disc space.
But lately i found mailboxes have nearly double the storage as reported.
I mean, IMAP QUOTA reports around 900MB for one account that has over
2GB when I inspect the mail location of the user using the linux command
`du`
Another account has around 750MB according to IMAP but using du I find
1.5GB. This is for message files and index files combined.
Is this normal? I tried to read the MailboxFormat/dbox wiki page and it
does not directly address this topic but it does reference "doveadm
purge". Do I need to use "doveadm purge&quo...

Running Instant Rails from USB key
...g it would be a
great way of showing off Rails in general, giving a progress update to
customers, trying out ideas, and generally all the other benefits that
come from having a completely portable environment.
However, the 168Mb of files that make up my Instant Rails (with extra
gems) is consuming 750Mb of space on my USB key. The reason is simple
enough; the USB is formatted as FAT32, and having lots of small files
stored on a FAT32 partition is a great way to burn your disc space
quickly. Unfortunately, I don''t seem to be able to reformat the USB
key as anything other than FAT or FAT3...

SOS
Good evening every body, I am a new one of this mail list.
In my project I have faced a problem. That is when I copied my files
from windows2000srv to redhat8 Linux or from redhat8 to windows2000srv
by samba(the quantity of file is 26200 and the size is about 750MB) I
found that about 10 files lost. The quantity of lost file is changed
every time.
Would you like to help me? Is this a problem of windows?Or samba?Or the
smb.conf of samba?

how to make virtual machine in xen allocate memory automatically?
hi,
recently I installed xen 3.0 at centOS5.1 server with one centOS5.1
virtual machine, and I set the virtual machine allocate 2 vcpu and
minimum memory allocation is 256mb, and maximum memory allocation is
750mb. and the virtual machine running fine at idle status, and
allocated 256mb memory.
And today I install an application called dotcms, and it :
Using JAVA_OPTS: -Ddotserver=dotcms_1.5.1 -Xss2048k -Xmn100M -Xms500M

the application is hanged until I manually allocation 515mb memory for

"Boot error" on USB drive on some systems
...g.
I have a Sandisk U3 Cruzer Micro 4.0GB flash drive. I have removed
the U3 software via the uninstall utility on the U3 website.
The USB flash drive is on /dev/sdc
I have tried this with syslinux 3.11 (from Ubuntu 7.04) and syslinux
3.36 (from Ubuntu Gutsy).
I fdisked the drive and created a 750MB FAT16 partition (type 0x6) and
made it active. It is /dev/sdc1
I cat'ed the mbr.bin (from the syslinux package) to /dev/sdc. I have
also tried putting the MBR on using 'ms-sys'.
I then did: syslinux /dev/sdc1 (also tried syslinux -s /dev/sdc1).
I also setup stuff so that I would h...

[Bug 9815] New: Compression tuning parameters
...sync-qa at samba.org
Okay, so it's great that rsync has built in compression that can be switched
off for known compressed file types, however there is still some extra control
that could be useful for tweaking when to compress files.
For example, in my case I know that all of the files over 750mb on my machine
are mostly movie files; obviously I can add file-extension for these, but there
are quite a lot of possible movie file wrappers, so it might be easier if I
could disable compression over a certain size, as this would also exclude
things like disk images that are probably compressed al...

Glusterfs with Infiniband tips
...ver IPoIB interface, but i've not managed to get a good level of performance with real data. I was maxing about 220MB/s with a single thread and around 550MB/s with 12 or more threads. Benchmarking with a huge file made from /dev/zero gives me around 800-900MB/s with multiple threads and around 750MB/s single thread. Not sure why would glusterfs has a good level of performance when reading from RAM but is only working at 1/2 of the disk speed when reading real data from the disk?
3. Glusterfs with NFS also gives me crappy results. Running NFS directly from zfs pool gives me a far better perfo...

Sampling encoder timings between libtheora-1.0 & libtheora-1.1beta3
...ware
add-on to about 49,386 kb/s.
All clips were converted to yuv4mpeg format and then copied to /dev/shm
to remove, as much as possible, any potential outside influences on
encoder performance. This limited me to working with clips whose size
in yuv4mpeg format would be under approximately 750MB. Also, no sound
was included, thus limiting this test solely to Theora encoding.
Commands used were of the form:
time ~/packages/libtheora-1.0/examples/encoder_example --output
/dev/null --video-quality 7 canon-powershot-A550.yuv4mpeg
I am presenting the best time out of three trials for each c...

mirroring without a network
Hi,
this might be offtopic - please excuse if it turns out to be.
I have rather big ( > 20 Gb) source archives on two different machines.
Unfortunately there is only a very slow network connection between these
machines.
To synchronize these two archives (directory trees), I'd like to
generate a directory tree of signature files (instead of the real ones).
Then I would copy only these to

Rails app lags after inactivity
Hi all. I have two Rails applications. Each is on its own VPS hosted by
Pipespring (excellent service btw).
My app runs lightning quick - AFTER the first load. If I visit my site after
a period of inactivity (i.e. no visitors to my site), it takes up to 10
seconds to load that first time. After that I can hop around with no
problems.
Has anyone run into this before? Ideas?
