...'s get that right: 100 MBytes/sec == 800 Mbits/sec, which is just a tad over 100 Mbits/sec (the bottleneck if you use 100-Base-T as the nic). In actual CIFS benchmarking tests over 1Gb ethernet, between two identical machines I have clocked sustained I/O at over 70MBytes/sec, that's still 70x8 = 560 Mbits/sec - still just a tad more than 100Mbit/sec ethernet can handle. So, if you want to give your MS windows clients breathing space and performance, at least between the etherswitch (a cheap device today) and the samba server, use 1Gb ethernet.
