CentOS5/6 Dual Boot
Alle,
We currently have a CentOS 5.6 x86-64 server running using about 70G of
a 500GB hardware raid partition. We'd like to install 6.0 alongside this
installation in a dual boot configuration. We tried to install using the
"Use Free Space" installation option, but the installer did not see the
475G of unused space.
Is there any good way to do this, or is i...

Re: Is there still no easier way to shrink a VM image?
...let me try again with a few more specifics, These are Windows VMs with three disk images for C:, D: and L:. To simplify I'll focus on the image for C: which had grown to 77G physical size on the hypervisor's ssd (I just double-checked that with 'ls -al' because qemu-img below says 70G, this image had two snapshots at one time which may be the reason for the discrepancy). qemu-img info reports:

disk size: 70G

kmeans clustering on large but sparse matrix
...em at all. Meaning that
the kmeans in R could recognize this type of matrix.
If I run the entire matrix, R says "too many elements specified."
I have considered the 'bigmemory' and 'biganalytics' packages. But to save
the sparse matrix as common CSV file would take approx 70G and 99% being 0.
I just don't think it's necessary or efficient to treat it as a dense
matrix.
It there anyway to deal with the vector length limit? Can I split the whole
matrix into small ones and then do k-means?
Thanks,
Lishu

EXT2 vs. EXT3: mount w/sync or fdatasync
My application always needs to sync file data after writing. I don't want anything handing around in the kernel buffers. I am wondering what is the best method to accomplish this.
1. Do I use EXT2 and use fdatasync() or fsync()?
2. Do I use EXT2 and mount with the "sync" option?
3. Do I use EXT2 and use the O_DIRECT flag on open()?
4. Do I use EXT3 in full journaled mode,

Posfix and Dovecot (dovecot like LDA) and no space left on the disk
Hi,
Please I have a question:
If my server is out of space (disk full) and the postfix is LDA, the new messages a deffered or refused,so postfix send 450 to sender ...
But When I use dovecot (1.2.16) like LDA, postfix accept message (even there is no space), forward to dovecot, dovecot REFUSE the message and message is lost !
How can I solve this ? I don't want tu use quota and the disk

DU and Hard Links?
...go to the root of the backup directory and use: du --max-depth=1
-h, it gives me the actual space being taken up by each incremental
directory, the space being taken by the current directory, and then the
total of all.
For example:
44G /Current
1G /06-20-2004
750M /06-19-2004
Etc...
Etc..

70G Total
But what I would like to do is automatically get the size of the last
created hard linked directory daily through a script. But in the example
above, if I move into one of the sub directories, like /06-20-2004, and
run: du -sh, it gives me a total of 44G. This is the size of the actual
files...

Certified Fraud Prep Exam
Hello everyone,
I am new to WINE, and it's abilities. I am trying to run a prep program that is designed for windows (obviously) and I am getting wicked errors. Sadly, the makes of the software have absolutely no knowledge of Linux. I got a direct x error, and fixed it via their solution. That lead to another error, and the vendor and I are working on this problem.
I could easily

[RFC] Propeller: A frame work for Post Link Optimizations
...of squeezing extra performance from highly
optimized binaries with optimizations such as code layout, it has these major
issues:
* It does not take advantage of distributed build systems.
* It has scalability issues and to rewrite a binary with a ~300M text segment
size:
* Memory foot-print is 70G.
* It takes more than 10 minutes to rewrite the binary.
Similar to Full LTO, BOLT’s design is monolithic as it disassembles the
original binary, optimizes and rewrites the final binary in one process. This
limits the scalability of BOLT and the memory and time overhead shoots up
quickly for larg...

[RFC] Propeller: A frame work for Post Link Optimizations
...ction in memory with jemalloc for
clang? We double-checked our numbers with the larger benchmarks and we
can confirm they were *not built with labels*. One of our
large benchmarks, search1, is about 5 times the size of clang in terms of
text size as reported by size command, and we are seeing a 70G memory
overhead on this. Do you have data on the memory consumption of BOLT with
larger benchmarks with jemalloc. We are trying to build Chrome with
latest BOLT so that we can share the memory overheads and the binaries with
you for transparency but we are struggling with the disassembly errors....

Expanding a virtual block device
Hi list.
I''m running Xen 4.0.1 on Debian.
I''m trying to live resize a block device :
- I have a arbitrary block device in my dom0 (/dev/mapper/vm-vol42).
- I start a PV domain with that device as a disk (disk =
[''phy:/dev/mapper/vm-vol42,xvda,w'']).
- I resize vm-vol42 in the dom0 (adding size only)
- the dom0 sees the device''s new size.
