Merb in production with God/Monit
Hey All,
I just wanted to get other peoples take on problems when running merb
in production? Just as Rails used to do, the mongrels tend to get
heavy/unresponsive over time so need a good kicking by a watcher
daemon like god or monit. However, I have had serious problems getting
God to restart the process, as the "merb -k <port>" command doesnt
appear to work reliably

Installing R 3.5 on Ubuntu bionic stopped(?) working
...mbos of
Ubuntu and R and R package versions. Maybe this is related? (I don't know
enough to judge that as I know very little about R, despite helping
maintain a tool that uses it :-)
With repo2docker we are in a slightly weird position where we want to
enable container image builds that worked 6months or 12months ago to also
work today. This means if a user built a container with R 3.5 in the past
on this particular version of Ubuntu we'd like to be able to re-run that
container image build in the future. Not having to build R from source and
instead using the packages provided here looked l...

Cox with time varying effect
Dear R users,
I am doing Cox regression using coxph(Survival) or cph(Design).
I have time varying effects (diagnosed with schoenfeld residuals Chi2 test and graph) so I first want to split time into 2 separate intervals : t<6months and t>=6months, to estimate one hazard ratio (hr) for each interval.
I am analysing Overall survival according to 3 prognostic factors (age, deep, ldh).
my dataframe (dtemp) looks like this:
> dtemp[1:3,]
id time status age_diag deep ldh
1 1 1.544148 1 65.4236...

Ok. Sounds like we were making "off-label" use of the packages then. It was
good while it lasted ;)

Installing R 3.5 on Ubuntu bionic stopped(?) working
...N one, or c2d4u, or ... additional
ones _but generally only exactly one current version_. So R 3.6.1 now.
We (as providers of these repos) never promised other interim version.

You could maybe base that on the versioned Rocker container (the "r-ver"
stack) which is also tagged to corresponding dates at MRAN. No support for
binary packages though.

tdbsam allow users to change password without notice!!!
..."maximum password age" -C 7776000 (90 days)
-P "minimum password age" -C 6912000 (80 days)
-P "user must logon to change password" -C 2 (on)
So my passwords need to be changed every 90 days and user can change it
after 80 days .
I use this policies 6months and everything was ok. Windows xp users
after logon was informed that they must chang password for xx days and
they can change it after 80 days.
But after changing time from winter to summer pdbedit work very strange!!
Today I have discover terrible thing. pdbedit -Lv show me that every

Rails - where are the BIG web apps?
Ok, Rails has been out for some time now. I''ve kept an eye on it pretty
closely. I''ve heard Basecamp, Robot Coop, 43 Things, etc. are running
on it. However, those have been the same apps people point to when the
dreaded scalability question comes up. Are there any new web apps
(large scale) in Rails or is it still the same old one? Something like
on the scale of

Why would I want Active Directory (rather, how to ar gue against it?)
...as pushed for was ACLs. This really stuffed things up
with the Samba side as our kernels were totally unstable with the early ACL
patches. It got really messy until we just binned ACLs. Now administration
is far easier and the Samba file/print servers have been up for +350 days.
About once every 6months we might have to reload winbindd to flush out stale
domain info but otherwise the admins rarely turn on the consoles.
One of the two ADS DCs is stable and operates as the Exchange 5.5 server as
well but the original ADS server is shafted. Once again it was something
done in the original migration...

wctdm, issue w/outbound calls
Hi all,
I've been running Asterisk with a TDM400P for about 6months, no problems.
2 in/outgoing analog lines, one analog phone. Recently I was messing with
the XTEN client, got to finagling with things, and not knowing what was
wrong I upgraded from 1.0.7 to 1.0.9 (both asterisk + zaptel). I was
testing various things, and found everything worked except outgo...

current zfs tuning in RELENG_7 (AMD64) suggestions ?
I gave the AMD64 version of 7.2 RC2 a spin and all installed as
expected off the dvd
INTEL S3200SHV MB, Core2Duo, 4G of RAM
In the past it had been suggested that for zfs tuning, something like
vm.kmem_size_max="1073741824"
vm.kmem_size="1073741824"
vfs.zfs.prefetch_disable=1
However doing a simple test with bonnie and dd, there does not seem
to be very much difference in

[FEEDBACK] Governance of GlusterFS project
Hello everyone,
We are in the process of formalizing the governance model of the
GlusterFS project. Historically, the governance of the project has been
loosely structured. This is an invitation to all of you to participate in
this discussion and provide your feedback and suggestions on how we should
evolve a formal model. Feedback from this thread will be considered to the
extent possible in

The best motherboard for a home ZFS fileserver
I''m a fan of ZFS since I''ve read about it last year.
Now I''m on the way to build a home fileserver and I''m thinking to go with Opensolaris and eventually ZFS!!
Apart from the other components, the main problem is to choose the motherboard. The offer is incredibly high and I''m lost.
Minimum requisites should be:
- working well with Open Solaris ;-)
