Jean-Marc,
Yes, fixed-point is enabled (#define FIXED_POINT in config.h). I haven't tried anything lower than 4kbps; like I mentioned, 6kbps sounds fine so it's very strange. The only code I changed to get 4kbps was setting quality to 1 so that is the only difference in my test code between using 4kbps and 6kbps.
It seems to be in the encoder. On the ARM side, I encoded a 8Khz 16-bit mono sample in 4kbps mode, decoded it, and pl...

4kbps sounds robotic on TMS320C64
Hi,
I'm currently working on the TI DaVinci processor, which has an ARM926 processor and a TMS320C64+ DSP in it. I have been using Speex 6kbps (narrowband, quality=2, complexity=1, perceptual_enh=0) on the DSP C64+ side without any issues; the voice sounds very good for such a low bandwidth requirement. However, recently, I tried out the 4kbps mode (changing quality to 1) on the DSP and it sounds robotic; if I ported the same 4kbps code...

Opus vs Speex NB
Hi,
I noticed that speex.org has a banner that mentions that Opus is better
than Speex in all aspects. The supported bitrate range for Speex seems to
be as low as 2kbps though but Opus can only go as low as 6kbps. Is this one
aspect where Speex is still preferred? (I understand that it's not a very
common scenario though).
Thanks,
Manpreet.

Adpcm, 6KHz codec
Is there a way to play adpcm, 6KHz in asterisk? If yes, where can we get
this codec?
Thank you.

How to change codec frame_size at runtime
Hi all,
Please guide me How to change frame_size of opus codec at run-time (20ms, 40ms, 60ms)
I'm stucking in this case:
1. init codec width default config (frame_size =20ms, bandwidth=48KHz, bitrate = 48kbps...), then in runtime changing:
- bitrate = 24, 16, 6kbps: sound is OK
- frame_size = 40ms, 60ms: Not OK, sound is distort so bad
2. init codec with frame_size = 40ms , others is default, then in runtime changing:
- bitrate = 6kbps: OK
- bitrate = 24, 48kbps: Not OK
I'm using opus_encoder_ctl api:
opus_encoder_ctl(opus_data->enc,OPUS_SET_E...

Q: Bandwidth vs. bitrate
Hi!
So here is what I got with different encoder settings; still not sure what the "best" setting is. 6kbps seems to add distortions, so I tried 12kbps.
MP3-Original: LAME 3.99r, 120kbps, 44100Hz, Stereo, VBR V5 (22:23, 19.8MB)
Opus (--raw-rate 44100 --bitrate 56 --vbr --comp 5): (44:45?, 23.4MB): Broken
Opus (--bitrate 56 --vbr --comp 5 --ignorelength - %d): (22:23, 12.1 MB, 74kbps)
Opus (--bitrate 6 --...

Q: Bandwidth vs. bitrate
Hi!
I have some MP3 audio material which is basically speech with some background noises, essentially > 120Hz and < 5kHz.
I had the idea to reduce the file size by recoding the material to Opus at 56kbps. Unfortunately the result is a file sampled at 48kHz much larger than the original.
I hope you agree that it does not make sense to create a file larger than the original (MP3). Of course the encoder sees just WAV (RAW) with possible MP3 decoding artefacts, but anyway: Is there a way to handle this...

Speex split across processors?
...aid that you would answer the way you did: I thought about my
question after I sent it, and the "LP" in CELP is what makes it a
sequential process; it can't do linear prediction on a frame that the
other processor is encoding.
I'm looking at a specific set of parameters, probably 6kbps without
VAD. It doesn't have to sound great, just understandable. Being able
to recognize the person's voice on the other end is also a
requirement. Some of the very low bitrate codecs like 2.4kbps sound
more like a speech synthesizer than the actual speaker's voice; this
won't b...

Hi All,
What would be interesting would be a plot of complexity versus subjective or
object audio quality.
I've not had a chance to look at the new analysis code in 1.1 so maybe in
the case of a 6kbps compression you could clarify what decisions would it be
making that would justify the extra complexity?
Best Regards
Cliff Parris

Cliff,
Yes it would be good, but very hard to get a figure for the quality.
At 6kbps I assume it does not bother trying to figure what mode to use as
at that rate it can only use SILK. When I run some other bitrates it may
get a bit slower trying to decide whether it is voice or music.
I started with low bit rate because I am only really interested in Voice
and very low bit rate....

Resampling to 48khz speeds them both up but the disparity is about the

switch between speech and music encoding rather quickly.
I wanted to try that for a CD track that has a vocal (talk) introduction =
followed by music (just two instruments).
Using foobar2000 with some custom setup for Opus, I tried VBR encoding =
with a 256kbps setting (opus-tools-0.1.9-win32). My expectation was that =
the bitrate would be significantly lower than 256kbps while speech is =
encoded, while it would go up for the music part. However during playback =
I could not see a significant difference in foobar's (version 1.3.2 before =
you ask) d...

Simple Example isnt working (ssh/bulk traffic)
Hi,
the script below should allow to get ssh connections running well while
downloading, but even the 100kbps (100kbyte/s?) doesnt work - can still
download with 500+kb/s. Whats wrong?
INTERFACE=eth0
#clear all on $INTERFACE
tc qdisc del dev $INTERFACE root
tc qdisc add dev $INTERFACE root handle 1:0 htb default 15
#root qdics, allows borrowing for its children
tc class add dev
