Random Disk I/O Tests
I have two openvz servers running Centos 6.x both with 32GB of RAM.
One is an Intel Xeon E3-1230 quad core with two 4TB 7200 SATA drives
in software RAID1. The other is an old HP DL380 dual quad core with 8
750GB 2.5" SATA drives in hardware RAID6. I want to figure out which
one has better random I/O performance to host a busy container. The
DL380 currently has one failed drive in the

Newer version of ffmpeg for EL6?
We're trying to build a rich media website, and will need to re-encode
the video content with ffmpeg. Unfortunately, the ffmpeg version that
comes with the most common repos are rather out of date. As in 0.6.5 vs
2.21 being the most current version. However, ffmpeg looks to be a

Strangely slow disk
I have a 1.5TB Western Digital hard disk (WD15EADS-00R6B0)
on my CentOS-5.7 server, which has become incredibly slow

although it seems to work fine for ordinary file operations,
and "smartctl -a /dev/sdb" does not report any errors.
For example, running "e2fsck -p /dev/sdb5" on a 250GB partition
on this disk took over 24

Mock - Problems building Centos5 package on Centos6 - where can I ask for advice ?
Hi.
I am trying to use Mock to rebuild a .src.rpm file I have made for PHP 5.3.8
(for Centos6)
I have managed to install deps fine with mock.
When I try to rebuild the package though I get.

Remote-logging nginx? (or other non-syslog-enabled stuff)
I'm looking for suggestions as to a good general method of
remote-logging services such as nginx or anything else which doesn't
support syslog natively.
I'm aware that there's an nginx patch, and we're evaluating this. It
may be the way we fly.
However there are other tools which may not have a patch for which
remote logging would be useful. If there's a general soution

selinux + kvm virtualization + smartd problem
...ng audit2allow:
[root at srv-1.home ~]# cat /var/log/audit/audit.log | grep smartd |
audit2allow -M smartd_svirt_image
[root at srv-1.home ~]# semodule -i smartd_svirt_image.pp
but it not helped to solve problem.
How I can create permissive rule for selinux in my case?
Thank you.
