Opus encoding rate for very quiet noisefloor
..., you get similar bitrates. As you encode quieter and quieter noise, the extra cost of using _AUDIO mode vs _VOIP goes up. At the extreme, a 10s signal of white noise with amplitude of only 2 (16bit, 16kHz), I see a near doubling. The _VOIP encoded file is size 46KB, the _AUDIO encoded file is 69K. Now this does make sense -- in an audio mode, you want faithful reproduction of very quiet signals (reverb tails, etc). However, I wanted to ask the list if this is expected/known behaviour. I wonder if it is possible to engineer a scenario (using existing apis) that would give one the benef...

separate home "partition"?
(i use the term loosely because i know that zfs likes whole volumes better) when installing ubuntu, i got in the habit of using a separate partition for my home directory so that my data and gnome settings would all remain intact when i reinstalled or upgraded. i''m running osol 2008.11 on an ultra 20, which has only two drives. i''ve got all my data located in my home directory,

unaccounted for daily growth in ZFS disk space usage
We finally flipped the switch on one of our ZFS-based servers, with approximately 1TB of 2.8TB (3 stripes of 950MB or so, each of which is a RAID5 volume on the adaptec card). We have snapshots every 4 hours for the first few days. If you add up the snapshot references it appears somewhat high versus daily use (mostly mail boxes, spam, etc changing), but say an aggregate of no more than 400+MB a

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
