anaconda, kickstart, lvm over raid, logvol --grow, centos7 mystery
I am testing some kickstarts on ESXi virtual machine with pair of 16GB disks.
Partitioning is lvm over raid.
If i am using "logvol --grow i get "ValueError: not enough free space in volume group"
Only workaround i can find is to add --maxsize=XXX where XXX is at least 640MB less than available.
(10 extents or 320Mb per created logical volume)
Following snippet is failing with "DEBUG blivet: failed to set size: 640MB short"
part raid.01 --size 512 --asprimary --ondrive=sda
part raid.02 --size 1 --asprimary --ondrive=sda --grow

Really high load average. Config problem?
helo
I am running samba on an 800 Duron / 640MB PC2100 DDR Ram / 40 GB IBM Deskstar with slackware 8 / 2.2.17 Optimized for Duron.
Whenever I copy files to the server, my load average gets to be about 6.0-8.0! On the 700 Duron we have at the office where I work, (same specs except it has 768MB of SDRAM and a RAID Array). Would the reason my b...

Windows harddisk images.
...ll,
I've been following this project with interest, and have had great fun
implementing Isolinux within the FreeDOS cdrom distribution.
Since I'm not that an expert at Linux, I would like to know how I can
*succesfully* generate a bootable image from a partition.
Situation is like this: (640MB RAM on system)
60GB IDE harddisk,
primary partition 1 win98 500MB
extended partition with 2 logical partitions about 50GB.
I cannot delete these.
The win98 primary partition is active and boots fine.
Now I plug in my SCSI disk into it's controller, so I can boot from SCSI
into Win2000.
There...

Glide-OpenGL wrappers
...ut a google
search hasn't been terribly helpful.
Are there any windows Glide-OpenGL wrappers that are functional under
WINE? I'm trying to get Wing Commander Prophecy to run in hardware
mode, but with my configuration, Direct3D doesn't want to work (I've a
PIII/600, MGA G550, 640MB ram, Xorg 6.8.1, kernel 2.6.9, and wine 20050310)
WCP is a DirectX 6 game, and I figured that since I've seen Warcraft
III run halfway decently with this configuration using OpenGL rather
than D3D, I could try that with WCP. Unfortunately, All of the Glide
wrappers I've tried have had...

So, any suggestions? Does anyone have a working console with asterisk,

Optomising WINE?
Can anyone tell me, or point me in the direction to find, information on
speeding up WINE if possible (especially OpenGL)? I'm sure there must be
some way that I can do it.
While I'm willing to accept it if it is not possible (heck, WINE is
incredibly good for alpha software doing what it is doing), programs under
WINE tend to be too slow for practical use, so any help on fixing

Asterisk on Zonbu, impact of transcoding
...box is an Intel compatible processor (VIA Esther processor 1200MHz)
with 512mb ram and 4gb of cf for storage. It's silent because it has no
moving parts.
I installed CentOS 5.0, Asterisk 1.2.24, and Zaptel 1.2.21.
I started loading up calls using this call file from my dev box (P4
1.6ghz, 640mb ram):
channel: sip/zonbu0/760xxxxxxx
application: record
data: /tmp/test.wav
maxretries: 0
My dialplan (on zonbu0) consisted of:
exten = _x.,1, verbose(1,${CONTEXT}:${EXTEN}:${PRIORITY})

naive question
I have a 100Mb comma-separated file, and R takes several minutes to read it
(via read.table()). This is R 1.9.0 on a linux box with a couple gigabytes of
RAM. I am conjecturing that R is gc-ing, so maybe there is some command-line
arg I can give it to convince it that I have a lot of space, or?!
Thanks!

Rails Development on a Mac Mini?
How many people out there are doing Rails development on a Mac Mini? I''ve
been eyeing up the MacBook as well as the new MacMini trying to decide if I
want to splurge. I''ve been doing very little Rails development thus far
which makes the investment a little hard to justify. The Free Mini Mac (

Hi,
has anyone implemented a mail server with maildir, Postfix and Dovecot using
Active Directory ad userbase and password authentication?
Do I need Samba to authenticate users?
Can I use credential caching just like mysql?
Ciao,

including R in the SuSE Linux distribution
Dear R people,
This message is not a message for help, so strictly off-topic, but I
wanted to reach as many users of R as possible. Please excuse the fact
that it is off-topic.
I use Linux, and the distribution I use is the German based commercial
distribution SuSE. SuSE prides itself on trying to be a comprehensive
distribution of free software. However, they do not include R (or for that

Yum w/o direct connect
I am hoping someone else is already doing what I need to do, and can give
me some pointers.
Situation:
1. I am running Centos 4.3 x86_64 on a machine at home, without broadband
access. I have dialup access, but that doesn't work very well for
something like "yum update", so I am still running 4.3 as issued on the CDs.
2. I have high speed access at work, and I have a USB drive to
