CentOS 6.9 Skylake soft error
Hello, I have an Intel NUC6i5 (Skylake i5-6260u processor) running CentOS 6.9 and there are no real problems. However during boot an error occurs in dmesg where a PCH unknown device 0x9d48 is logged. How can I get rid of this error output? Thank you, Mark

Nested Virtualization not working
Hi, I wonder if someone can provide pointers on what might be wrong with my setup. I'm running a kvm host Fedora23 with rawhide kernel on top of a skylake cpu - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6260U CPU @ 1.80GHz (family: 0x6, model: 0x4e, stepping: 0x3) As part of an experiment, I have enabled Nested virt support on the host and created a fedora23 guest with virt-manager using host-passthrough as the cpu model. The guest comes up fine and was updated without issues. Now if I install Virtual...

[RFC] Using Intel MPX to harden SafeStack

Intel Hyper-Threading, Intel Turbo Boost, and the LAN were all disabled. I used SPEC CPU2006 v1.2 and started the Clang/LLVM port from the gcc 4.6 Linux x86 example file included in the SPEC CPU 2006 kit. Here is the legend for the various test conf...

[RFC] Using Intel MPX to harden SafeStack
Hi, I previously posted about using 32-bit X86 segmentation to harden SafeStack: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-May/100346.html That involves lowering the limits of the DS and ES segments that are used for ordinary data accesses while leaving the limit for SS, the stack segment, set to its maximum value. The safe stacks were clustered above the limits of DS and ES. Thus, by
