Large Amount of Listeners
I have to setup an online radio to support 5K users initially and
grow into 80k users later.
1.Has anyone any tips on this?
2.Would you recommend serving more than 2000 listeners on a single
server?
3.Are there any redundance features on the relay server mode?

Samba4 implementation
...,
I would like to ask you for your samba4 implementations. As we are thinking
to install samba4 we would like to know if somebody has a similar structure
and load, and know about the performance.
We have about 22 centers with 2 samba4 servers for domain, ldap and dns.
Each center must serve about 5k domain clients with 5k workstations and
servers in the center. The number of domain clients could be increased to
15k. The samba4 configuration has to be replicated in all the centers.
Besides the domain logons and the dns queries, we also have serveral
applications that pull the ldap for sinchron...

POP/IMAP HA solution for 5k users
Hello, I want to build simple, cheap HA solution for 5000 users with
postfix/dovecot. Each user will have 1.3 GB mailbox (maildir) storage
quota. All of the users will use POP and also plus half of them will use
IMAP from smart phones. Sometimes they will hit webmail (squirrelmail). I
plan that every user will send 20 and receive 20 mails per day.
I have 3 locations, but electricity are not very

High capacity voicemail
Hi,
Does anybody has experience with high capacity PSTN voicemail and
asterisk, running more then 5k mailboxes for PSTN users ?
How many mailboxes can I serve with 4xE1 card if we assume that we
have enough harddrive
capacity. What would be server requirements. Would the CPU load be the
same when storing
voicemails in gsm format as compresing to gsm for ip calls ?
Any hints would be greatly appre...

80k+ locked files from single samba user
Hi,
our setup succesfully serves 100+ concurrent users for years.
beginning a month ago every few days we see single users with 80k+ locked files. Normally all users together only have <5k locked files.
This large amount of locked files degrades server performance (too much consumed memory, server beginns swapping).
Is there any way i can prevent single users to lock more than for example 500 files?
thanks + best regards

Hello
I running dovecot that is packaged with Fedora 1 with about 1500 email
accounts approximately 5k messages per day. I have had to restart
dovecot twice over a period of about 3 months due to it not responding.
Overall I'm happy with the setup, however would I see and improvement if
I upgraded to the latest version, at time of writing 0.99.10.5.

Ice Cast Limited to 1019 connections
Hi All,
I've got a strange problem with Centos 5.9 64bit running Ice Cast, soon as the server hit 1019 connections it dies. Set the fs-file-max to 65535 and added in hard & soft no files to 655535 yet still not joy. (Ice Cast listeners are set to over 5K connections)
Has anyone come across this problem?
Kind Regards,
Mike

Suggest Rsync Performance Improvements
...I/O, all reads and write to file systems
1MB (can use setvbuf to do this with out coding)
e.g a awk programme doing 8K I/O to read 2GB file
took 16 min, a perl programme doing 1MB I/O took 16
seconds.
2. When doing rsync -a /dir1/dir2 /dir3/dir4
Do not use pipe's, as they only read/write 5k at a
time this is extremly slow, check it out with Solaris
truss. Use sockets with large I/O or shared memory on
the same system.
To see the difference try
timex dd if=xyz of=lll bs=5k
vs
timex dd if=xyz of=lll bs=1024k
3. When allocating memory which will be accessed all
the time use valloc(...

Performance suggestions or best practices ideas?
Any suggestions on applications that involve alot of calcualtions on a
fairly large data set?
My app uses a set of raw data ~5k, applies some default/override rules
on the raw data and does some calculations on the data in combination
with a list of assumptions. A ranked list along with detailed metrics
is generated. The end user can manipulate some of the rules and
assumptions to generate different metrics for compar...

Stack Usage is more in the libunwind library .
Hi All,
We recently migrated to llvm 9 from gcc -7 and found that the stack
usage is more like 5K in the below function
getInfoFromDwarfSection() @ line : 1484
<https://github.com/llvm-mirror/libunwind/blob/master/src/UnwindCursor.hpp#L1484>
With our analysis and found that "typename CFI_Parser<A>::PrologInfo
prolog" local data is taking up almost 4K space.
So we think...
