Migrating zpool to new drives with 4K Sectors
Hi ZFS Discuss, I have a 8x 1TB RAIDZ running on Samsung 1TB 5400rpm drives with 512b sectors. I will be replacing all of these with 8x Western Digital 2TB drives with support for 4K sectors. The replacement plan will be to swap out each of the 8 drives until all are replaced and the new size (~16TB) is available with a `zfs scrub`. My question is, how do I do th...

installing centos 7 32 bit i386 to laptop
...scrounge another DDR2 SODIMM for that thing, according to my google search, it supports up to 2 x 4GB == 8GB, and you said you only have the stock 2GB. 4GB will be way better performance with a GUI, 8GB would be even better. you still have a really slow CPU and if its still got the original 5400RPM HD, a really slow HD, but don't make it triple-suffer from not enough ram. (a SSD replacing the SATA HD would make it actually pleasant to use) -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz

Need to pick your brain for recommendation on using 2.5" or 3.5" HDDs for Asterisk server...
Hi Everyone, I am stack between two identical systems (2U Twin2, 4 nodes, SuperMicro) servers that have the same exact specs except for HDDs. These nodes will all either have Asterisk installed with CentOS or will have Asterisk install in virtual environment. Option 1: *12* x 3.5" HDD (3 HDDs per node) Option 2: *24* x 2.5" HDD (6 HDDs per node) **both options come to the same price.

Very slow disk I/O
...n how to improve the disk I/O on my server and > reduce the wait time on I/O. it appears you have everything on a single file system on a single 2TB drive? I'm going to guess thats a desktop grade SATA disk spinning at most at 7200rpm (many are slower, 'green' disks are often 5400rpm). what sort of workload are you running? our high disk IO servers, doing things like transactional databases, have many 10000rpm or 15000 rpm drives on a SAS2 raid card with 1GB or 2GB of write-back-cache (battery or flash backed). -- john r pierce 37N...

samsung sata disk pb
...go on my desktop running ubuntu (kernel 2.6.27-11), hdparm -iI is working and benchmark is a lot better : $ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 2392 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1196.00 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 226 MB in 3.02 seconds = 74.81 MB/sec the green HD is a 5400rpm, though the other one is 7400rpm, but a factor 2 in performance between them looks very strange to me. As the green 1 To disk is not identified by hdparm I think it's not configured properly. Any hint to make my 1To disk flying like the other one ? :) cheers, David

Rsync failures when things are going too fast ?
...args, but it had no incidence at all. Indeed, there were no reason for such a failure. Both disks (source and destination) are in HFS+, I use no rsync daemon but a simple rsync command... and it used to work well. The only difference I could see was: -backup work on my external hard-drive (5400rpm) through FW800 -backup does not work on another drive (7200rpm) through FW800 The only difference being the speed of the two disks, I tried to play with --bwlimit, but it did not work. Eventually, I tried to backup trough FireWire 400 instead... and it worked ! I cannot make any clever diagno...

Very slow disk I/O
Hi Users I am using RHEL 6.5 on my server. From top command i can see that the processors in my server are spending a lot of time on wait for I/O. I can see high percentage in terms of 30-50% on "wa" time. Here is the df output about the disk space in my system: ********** [root at localhost images]# df Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1
