wilcox_test function in coin package
Dear All, I have two simple data samples (no groups or factors, etc.) and would just like to compute the two-sample Wilcoxon Rank Sum test using the wilcox_test function contained in the coin package, which is reportedly better than the regular wilcox.test function because it performs some adjustment for ties. Would anyone know how to craft a script to perform this task? Much appreciated. Janh

xlim/ylim problem
Hi everybody, just arrived at R and immediately I got a problem. Here's my script: setwd("C:/Users/Tom/Eigene Tools/Programming/R/Data") blast_hits<-read.table("blastHit_covLenght.txt", header=T) blast_hits <- as.matrix(blast_hits) numerical1<-data.matrix(blast_hits, rownames.force = NA)

Add grid lines to levelplot
I'm using the levelplot function in the lattice package. I am plotting a grid of cells and I want grid lines drawn between cells. I've spent a lot of time trying different options. I've also looked at panel.levelplot. The border parameter seems to be ignored or it doesn't mean cell border color. The panel.levelplot calls grid.rect but forces lwd=1e-5 instead the passed lwd. On

Why doesn't R have a float data type?
This is strictly a curiosity question. I am aware the R doesn't possess a float data type. I also don't mean to request that such functionality be implemented as I'm sure it would require a large amount of work with potential back compatibility conflicts. But I wanted to know why R has never had a float data type available? Regards, Charles [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

quesion about lm function
Hi all: My data is in the attachment. I want to analysis the mean difference of y between 2 sex. My code: result_lm<-lm(y~factor(sex) + x1 + x2) summary(result_lm) The result of "factor(sex)m" 136.83, is the mean difference of y between 2 sex,and the corresponding p value is 0.07618. My question is: how to get the mean y of sex(m) and sex(f) respectively via lm function? Many

set tkscale by tkentry
Hi, I am working under Windows and I am using R2.11 I want to use tkscale in my GUI. As the interval is quite big, I can't set the scale to a certain specific value. Therefore I want to add tkentry to allow the user to set tkscale to a certain value. Here is the code library(tcltk) tt<-tktoplevel() tkpack(m1<-tkscale(tt,from=306870.00, to=3026741, label="alpha",

Different results for tan(pi/2) and tanpi(1/2)
The same argument would hold for tan(pi/2). I don't say the result 'NaN' is wrong, but I thought, tan(pi*x) and tanpi(x) should give the same result. R nls results different from those of Excel ??
Hi all I have a set of data whose scatter plot shows a very nice power relationship. My problem is when I fit a Power Trend Line in an Excel spreadsheet, I get the model y= 44.23x^2.06 with an R square value of 0.72. Now, if I input the same data into R and use model< -nls(y~ a*x^b , trace=TRUE, data= my_data, start = c(a=40, b=2)) I get a solution with a = 246.29 and b = 1.51. I have tried

extracting the diagonal of an inverse matrix
Dear R-users, I would like to know whether there is a way to extract a diagonal of an inverse matrix without computing the inverse of the matrix itself. The size of my matrices are really huge and, also using sparse matrix, computing the inverse leads to storage problems and low speed. In other words, given a square matrix A, I aim to know diag(B), where B=solve(A), without computing solve(A).

Inconsistency in treating NaN-results?
This question is more out of curiosity than a complaint or suggestion, but I'm just wondering. The behavior of R on calculations that result in NaN seems a bit inconsistent. # this is expected: > 0/0 [1] NaN # but this gives a warning > sin(Inf) [1] NaN Warning message: In sin(Inf) : NaNs produced # and this again does not > exp(NaN) [1] NaN Conceptually, I like to think that R

Copy text from Script syntax into .txt
Hi everybody, How can I get text from RScript (e.g. syntax, reminder) into the result text. Sink() does not do that - I only read the results and therefore I have to 'guess' which syntax was used where - reminders I wrote are lost. Bw and thank you in advance, Roberto [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Hi, I have the following problem- I want to access a list whose elements are imp1, imp2, imp3 etc I tried theusing the paste comand in a for loop see the last for loop below. But I keep calling it df but df = imp1 (for the first run). Any ideas on how I can access the elements of the list? polygon angle option perpendicular to axis
I am trying to use the angle option in polygon to create polygons filled with horizontal and vertical lines. The polygons I am crating are irregular and it the angle function appears to set the angle of the shading perpendicular to the polygon sides rather than perpendicular to the axes. Is there any way to set the angle relative to the axes rather than relative to the polygon sides?
