Metadata size
...Interestingly, the metadata value was closer to 15K/object until my
last batch of writing, which was the 171 1G+ files (and a few in the
100M-1G range), plus an equal number of small (<2K) files.

Bug in mkfs.btrfs?!
Hi,
I wanted to create a new btrfs fs for my backups.
When trying to mkfs.btrfs for that device, I''m getting
"error checking /dev/loop2 mount status"
With strace I see where the problem is:
lstat("/dev/disk/by-id/ata-INTEL_SSDSA2M160G2GC_CVPO939201JX160AGN-par",
0x7fffa30b3cf0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
The problem is there is something missing

How does btrfs behave on checksum mismatch?
I came across the tidbit that ZFS has a contract guarantee that the
data read back will either be correct (the checksum computed over the
data read from the disk matches the checksum stored on disk), or you
get an I/O error. Obviously, this greatly reduces the probability that
the data is invalid. (Particularly when taken in combination with the
disk firmware''s own ECC and checksumming.)

btrfs balance -> hang/crash
Hi,
my btrfs "hangs" when doing a balance operation.
I''m using a 3.7.1 kernel from opensuse: linux-opzz 3.7.1-2.10-m4 #11 SMP
PREEMPT Fri Jan 11 18:04:04 CET 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I did a scrub which completed without errors. Then I tried "btrfs filesystem
balance /" which work fine for the first 23 of 46 chunks, then ist stopped

btrfs over nfs
I have been experimenting exporting btrfs subvolumes over nfs. Main
subvolume is filesys1 mounted at /filesys1. Below this is subvolume
base, user1 is in base and documents is in user1. documents is
mounted at /documents. /etc/exports is:
/filesys1/base/user1 172.16.0.0/24(rw,no_acl,no_root_squash,fsid=0)
/filesys1/user1-snapshot 172.16.0.0/24(rw,no_acl,no_root_squash,fsid=0)

btrfs: failed to read chunk tree on vde1 (f18 anaconda crash)
Hi,
I reported a bug to anaconda (rhbz 901905), but it might be btfs related.

Can't resize second device in RAID1
Hi,
the situation:
Label: ''RootFS'' uuid: c87975a0-a575-405e-9890-d3f7f25bbd96
Total devices 2 FS bytes used 284.98GB
devid 2 size 311.82GB used 286.51GB path /dev/sdb3
devid 1 size 897.76GB used 286.51GB path /dev/sda3
RootFS created when sda3 was 897.76GB and sdb3 311.82GB.
I have now freed other space on sdb. So I deleted sdb3 and recreated

Recovering "parent transid verify failed"
Hey,
I''d start by saying that I know Btrfs is a still experimental, and so
there''s no guarantee that one would be able to help me at all... But I
thought I''ll try anyway :-)
Few months ago I bought a new laptop and installed ArchLinux on it,
with Btrfs on the root filesystem... I know, it''s not the smartest
thing to do...
After a few month I had issues with my

btrfs-raid10 <-> btrfs-raid1 confusion
Greetings,
until yesterday I was running a btrfs filesystem across two 2.0 TiB
disks in RAID1 mode for both metadata and data without any problems.
As space was getting short I wanted to extend the filesystem by two
additional drives lying around, which both are 1.0 TiB in size.
Knowing little about the btrfs RAID implementation I thought I had to
switch to RAID10 mode, which I was told is

To loop or not to loop with btrfs

switching "balance" into background
Hallo, linux-btrfs,
I can''t switch a running "btrfs filesystem balance ..." via
ctrl z
bg
into the background, with other jobs this way works.
The stopping command "ctrl z" doesn''t work.
(may be on other keyboards it''s "ctrl y")
What goes wrong?

Converting 1-drive ext4 to 4-drive raid10 btrfs
Hello!
I have a 1 TB ext4 drive that''s quite full (~50 GB free space, though I
could free up another 100 GB or so if necessary) and two empty 0.5 TB
drives.
Is it possible to get another 1 TB drive and combine the four drives to
a btrfs raid10 setup without (if all goes well) losing my data?
Regards,
Paul

btrfs-progs
Hello World!
I''ve just done a git pull from
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mason/btrfs-progs-unstable.git
and looking at git log, the last commit was on Wed Oct 6 09:53:38 2010,
nearly a year ago. Is this project still maintained?

Subvolume level allocation policy
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Is it ( yet? ) possible to manipulate the allocation policy on a
subvolume level instead of the fs level? For example, to make / use
raid1, and /home use raid0? Or to have / allocated from an ssd and
/home allocated from the giant 2tb hd.

subvolume show
I was looking through some of the archives and notice a patch submitted
to implement:
btrfs subvolume show <path-to-subvolume>
command.
I also noticed that is does not appear to be in the git.
This looks like a useful capability. I was trying to find out what the
UUID was for a newly created subvolume and have not found out how to do
that.

btrfs-progs branch updated
Hi everyone,
I''ve updated the master branch with the pending stable btrfs-progs
commit that should make the 0.20 release.
Thanks to Hugh for helping to queue up a few of them. We''ll have more
frequent releases from here as we pull in the major new features going
into progs (raid5/6, send/receive, quotas, fsck improvements).
Please give it a shot and let me know if you see any

Mixed RAID 1 and 0 in different subvolumes?
Is there a way to mix RAID 1 and 0 in different subvolumes? I am a new
user to btrfs and would like to protect the important files with
mirroring, but have a bulk area that is striped for speed and size.
For example I want / and /home to be mirrored, but /media can just be
striped as it is all data I can easily recreate.
I see an item in the Project_ideas wiki entry called "Online raid
