Tar Compression issue
I have a file Server CentOS 5.10, its on the internet, so I compress all csv
into one file using (tar -czvf compressed_files.tar.gz *.csv) on this
server so that I can download them as one compressed file to save bandwidth,
Disk space on this server available is 50Gig, so when I copy the files onto
Redhat EL 5.9 and decompress them using (tar -zxvf *.gz) It decompresses
maybe 80% then get error:
gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive

Kernel Ooops probably in conjunction with lvm
Hello,
I've got a rather strange setup over here with about 6 ext3 partitions, one 50gig lvm partition and one 2 gig software-raid1 partition running under a heavily patched 2.4.10 kernel (various netfilter patches, freeswan, current lvm patch (1.0.1-rc4 and current ext3 patch). many files filelist problem
...ve it this command
[root@ais-mail01 root]# time rsync -pogrve ssh /var/spool/mail
root@10.0.0.9:/var/spool/mail/
root@10.0.0.9's password:
building file list ...
As top shows me it has been going 85 mins now building the filelist
I recon there are about 80 000 files in that directory totaling 50Gig
I was wondering is it beacause of the many files that it takes so long
or is it beacause the files continually change that maybe it has a
problem verifying the files ?
Is there a way that I can bypass this and just do a direct copy so to speak?
I used these commands previuasely without success...

Then, i do a custom install without Gnome or KDE of course.
