Some issues with X-Lite and codecs.
...o-VoIP gateway internationally using G.729 the quality is just perfect. When I am using X-Lite to connect the same box, and then to call internationally - I am experiencing some issues. I have 5Mbit/800Kbit cable link with average 60 msecs to my VoIP box. The transfer rate is never falling below 500Kbytes/sec. Therefore I am not suspecting quite noticeable packet loss. I enabled G.711 ulaw, alaw and speex codecs on both sides. By playing with different codecs I am trying to avoid some clicking and sound distortion, which is I am experiencing right now. Speex sometimes is better than G.711, but sti...

What goes to Hardware ?
...Frames routine in hardware I will need at least 3 big buffers: Current Frame Last Frame Golden Frame On a 320x240 stream, it represent about 150 Kbyte of each buffer, so I will need about 500 Kbytes of memory. It is too much to use FPGA internal memory. So I'm planning use a external SRAM of 500Kbytes. SRAM data sheet: http://www.olimex.com/dev/pdf/71V416_DS_74666.pdf Another alternative is to use a PC100 SDRAM of 16 Mb: http://download.micron.com/pdf/datasheets/dram/sdram/128MbSDRAMx32.pdf http://www.altera.com/literature/ds/ds_sdram_ctrl.pdf My Altera Stratix Dev. Kit has this SRAM and SDRA...

Samba as a client to windows2000/98 is slow.
...on a 192.168.0.255 netmask network. I need to mount some of the windows shares on the linux machine. This mounting works fine, and for smaller directory listings it SEEMS to function properly. --> Transfering a large list, or a file is VERY slow. It takes something like 2 MINUTES to transfer ~500kBytes of data. --> Ftping from the internet through the cable modem I get speeds closer to about 150kBytes per SECOND. Also, when doing any smb share activity the 'activity' light on the NIC does not flash constantly, but only very briefly with much time between it. I am running samba Versio...

curious
...never actually had this distro crash on me [I never got to see the exact message on the screen] - uptime in the 100's of days -and only ever down due to power failure or upgrade). I might also point out these machines are running between a cheap hub. I ended up limiting the bandwidth to 500KBytes/sec - and the problem has gone away (look further down the logs). The other network I am running this on (the one I never had problems with) - has much faster specs - a couple of dual cpu's, 2GB ram, UW SCSI, Intel NIC's and a nice Cisco Catalyst switch sitting inbetween. I think rsyn...

POLL: v2.2 to allow one mail over quota?
Currently if user is 1MB under quota and someone tries to deliver mail that is over 1MB, Dovecot rejects the mail. But smaller mails aren't rejected probably for days. So user might not even realize that they didn't receive one of the mails. Also having a user "almost over quota" is a rather strange state I think. So what do you think about v2.2 allowing delivery of one last

Firewall sizing guidelines?
...g guidelines for the linux 2.4 firewall? Currently we have: PPro 200 with 96 Mb RAM Mandrake 9.2 with 2.4.22 kernel 100Mb FD connection to LAN (tulip) 10Mb FD connection to net (e100) Shoreline 1.4 with ~20 rules, a few NAT entries. Typical average traffic: 200 pkts/sec, 75kBytes/sec Peak traffic ~500kBytes/sec (5 minute avg) We have approx 500 total users, with about 250 peak concurrent users. I''m in the process of setting up logwatch to deal with 100+ Mb of logs each day. Any other tools I can look at for gauging the performance, etc? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Shawn Wright, I.T....
