Greetings,
I have a 500Gig hdd with and XFS filesystem created by openfiler (which

up a Centos box with this hdd. I then did
yum install kmod-xfs.i686 xfsdump.i386 dmapi xfsprogs
and it wnt through.

adding raid1 to running system
I have followed the procedure on the Centos page:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/CentOS5ConvertToRAID
My setup is slightly different. I am using two partitions, / and /home.
I have setup swap as a file, /home/swapfile.
My hard drives are 500Gig sda and sdb.
In modifying the instructions for initializing sdb I have:
used /dev/md0 for / (sdb1)
used /dev/md1 for /home (sdb2)
In section 3.6
The line:
mount /dev/RaidSys/Root /mnt/root.new
was changed to
mount /dev/md0 /mnt/root.new
Everything seems to go well until I get to section 4.4....

rsync mechanics question
Hey All,
I've been using rsync (2.6.9) to migrate a 90g message store volume and
I'm running into some interesting results. I have two FC storage arrays
attached to a Sunfire V280R, running Solaris 8. My 100gig volume is on a
Sun StoreEdge 3510, and my new 500gig partition is on an HP EVA.
I used the syntax: rsync -a --stats --delete $SRC/$dir/ $DST/$dir
At present time, the destination volume is 2.5 times the size of the
original volume. My first thought was this may be a drive geometry
issue, and I've been working with Sun to get a solution. T...

3Ware ext3 performance with CentOS 5
Oddly enough, the performance of a 3Ware 9550SX controller seems to have
improved when switching from 64-bit to 32-bit CentOS 5. This is a RAID0
device with 8 x 500gig barracudas and the noatime and data=writeback
tweaks to that device in /etc/fstab. It's also quite a bit better than
results on the same machine using CentOS 4.4 (64-bit). This partition
is used to store scratch data consisting of large uncompressed video
files so the fast block reads/wri...

Samsung f3 hd502hj and Centos 5.4
...thought that I would throw
it out there, running centos 5.4 on a tyan s4985 and I wanted to add a hot
swap drive cage to it so I added a supermicro cage and bought some drives,
not wanting raid but something for storage and rsync backups. Well I
decided to buy some of the newer samsung F3 hd502hj 500Gig hard drives,
supposedly good performance for the price since they didnt have enough of
them I bought some WD black 500G drives also. Well when I got everything
back together I noticed that I was getting errors when centos was first
trying to boot, the error was Comreset -16 sata1.... wash and repe...

CentOS5, kernel update and 3ware driver
I'm using CentOS5 64bit on a system with a 3ware 9650SE card.
I installed the OS using the driver disk files provided by 3ware. It
worked fine with the original CentOS5 kernel.
After doing a "yum update", which also installed an updated kernel, the
system didn't work after a reboot, using the new kernel.
I rebooted the old kernel, moved the 3w-9xxx.ko file from

OT - small hd recommendation
A little OT - but I've seen a few opinions voiced here by various admins
and I'd like to benefit.

Resilver/scrub times?
Hi all!
I''ve decided to take the "big jump" and build a ZFS home filer (although it
might also do "other work" like caching DNS, mail, usenet, bittorent and so
forth). YAY! I wonder if anyone can shed some light on how long a pool scrub
would take on a fairly decent rig. These are the specs as-ordered:
Asus P5Q-EM mainboard
Core2 Quad 2.83 GHZ
8GB DDR2/80
